RODENATOR

"Division of Wildlife Commission (Colorado) is addressing requests made by farmers to use a device called The Rodenator to protect their properties from pests."

Simple system, pump a mix of propane and oxygen in the burrows and ignite. BOOM, instant reduction in the rodent population.

Hollywood has been using this system for explosions in movies for years. I can see it now, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover on the plains of eastern Colorado exterminating PD's. "Leathel PD's II" And what is that I see on the horizon? Could it be the Sierra Club on their white stallions? Well yes it is. Riding in to save the day (and the defenseless PD's). How could anyone put the well being and financial future of the farmers and ranchers of Colorado ahead of defenseless PD's?

We have a video tape of one of those devices. It is clean, simple, and humane. It is pretty cool because when it is ignited the whole ground lifts up. Kills the rodent instantly.

Thanks for the information. The equipment looks like stuff from the "Ghost Buster" movies. It really looks like something that could be fun.

After looking at their website it appears that Colorado may be the only state that has a problem with the concept.

Hey NASA, could this be coming from some of your neighbors at 40.0N/105.25W?

This thing is called a Rid-a-rabbit in Australia.
I have three of these units that I loan to farmers free of charge. We have mixed success rates with it. I would prefer a more conventional pressure fumigator but the gas is fun to play with. The rabbits don't die from the explosion they suffocate because the oxygen is burnt out of the warren.
People do love to blow things up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

What's a warren?

There are several folks who make devices like that. It's really rough on ag land, it really tears up the soil. That makes tractor work more difficult, and harvesting nuts and similar could be effected negatively. If your crop requires a nice hard layer of topsoil for harvesting, this ain't the tool for you, unless maybe you only use it early in the season.
