anyone have any opinon's on a rossi single shot 223 rifle? Also what is the best ammo at a cheap price that would be readily available to get(like at walmart) that would be good for shooting coyotes with a single shot. most shot's would be under a hunderd yards.
thanks,

I just got my girlfriend a Rossi .223 single shot topped with a Swift3x9x40 and a 20gauge barrel also and it's one hellva nice gun. I've just shot the winchester white box in it so far and they seem to shoot well.

i'm replying cause i want to keep this towards the top because, i'm really stressing about this decision. I have a chance to buy a rossi with a 4X16X40 simmons scope on it for $185. It's only been fired once and it wouldn't open up after the shot so they sent it back to the factory to be fixed. would be like new and now i know that it is fixed to. but, i have read so much about the NEF and how great it is that i'm really confused. I will be hunting coyotes in kansas and most shouts will be under 100 yards. I don't have much money to spend on a gun so the rossi is looking pretty good to me. anyone have any suggestions or thoughts ont he rossi out there. i've only been a member for 3 days but, i'm loving this site.

One of the gun mags had a review of the Rossi. While the author didn't come out and say they were junk he did spend a lot of time talking about how group size and the location of the group varied by tightening or loosening the foreend screw. I think he was getting a 2 foot difference in point of impact between fully tightened and just a couple threads engaging. As far as accuracy I think the best he managed were groups around 4". I had given thought to buying my son a 3 barrel set from Rossi but now I won't. Sean

Well, I have also seen articals written on the Rossie single shots...But, most of whtat I have read has been good. I also own a Rossie single shot in 223. I bought it before all the articals. IT will put 5 shots under an inch at 100 yds, as long as you let the barrel cool. I shoot the white box winchester 45 gr. HP's. I think that as long as you have a good scope on the gun it will be a good 100 yd contender. Any time you buy a gun you have a chance of it being a dud. I have seen NEF barrels with the bore off centered by 1/8 of an inch...this was more then one gun like that and in diff. calibers. So, you can never tell until you buy it and try it out. But it sounds like a good deal...Oh, are you buying it from an individual or a shop? If from an individual, I would ask if you might be able to put a couple of shots through it first. Either way, I still think it soulds like a good deal.

Rossi is JUNK! My son bought one last year with the 243/50 cal muzzle loader barrel. Could not shoot two close rounds in a 12" target. Took the gun back got a 2nd one. Same thing. Took it back and got a savage. Another guy at the range with the same gun, his gunshot the same spray. Terrible. My 2cents
