round limit for coyote hunting in Ohio?

Is there a round limit or magazine size used for hunting coyote in Ohio?
Thinking of using my AR with a 20rd magazine, might not carry 20rds in it but was just curious.

Never coyote hunted but want too!

Do you really need 20 rds? ..You guys really killin that many yotes in one set? To each there own but seems like overkill

I don't need 20 rds, but in case you didn't know a 20rd and 30rd magazine is pretty common for an AR-15. Just because it will hold that many doesn't mean I'll be loading that many but the DNR looks at the capacity not how many rounds left you have. This is the reason I posted the question.

THANKS

I never had any problems with 20 round mags in my AR10 and I have spoke to several wildlife officers while hunting.

I agree also that not that many rounds are needed but 20-30 round magazines are perfect for a black rifle.

I think what the whole question boils down to is if he grabs his AR and a magazine that just happens to have 18-20rds in the magazine on the way out the door to make a couple sets will he be breaking the law?? not whether he will need all 20rds on that particular day, none of my ARs came with low capacity mags, you can probably buy 5 rounders but I cant see much point in it if 20-30 rounders are legal.

I own 3 AR's and do know what overkill is for a Yote. Your not jumping a wall in Bagdad! Spray Away!

I usually throw 3-4 rounds in an AR mag.

I believe Ohio has passed a NEW law according to a fella at work. NO ROUNDS LOADED IN MAGS FOR TRANSPORT. DOES'NT MATTER IF THERE LOCKED IN A BOX OR NOT! He's a big pistol shooter at our club and said he always used to load his mags before comp's at the club.

I'm not sure if it's true?

any magazine that holds over 31 rounds centerfire in ohio is deemed as dangerous ordnance, so no drums,40 rounders ect, ect,.

this law was prosecuted a year or so back here, Toledo Ohio. Federal tax stamped weapons are excluded.

do a google and see the facts. Really very few ohio folks know this and they can bust your a$$ If they want to, does'nt even have to be in the firearm!

Ohio revised code 2923.11 for anyone interested

Im not saying anything for or against putting a 20 or 30rd mag in your AR and going out for a couple sets, but I will say that as long as its legal if the guy wants to do it more power to him...who are we to judge?? nobody can just assume that since he has 20rds in that mag that when and if he gets a shot at a yote all 20rds are going downrange, I used to hunt groundhogs with a Mini-14 I never put more than 2 rounds downrange at one hog, like I said I can go out and buy a 5 round mag..but it seems like a unneccessary expense since Ohio doesnt have a issue with the 20-30 rounders I already have.

Do you really NEED 3 AR's ? Seems like over kill to me!
Would be easier to carry 1- 20 round mag,than 3- AR's .

The ? was about laws, NOT opinions.

Tim, you were reading my mind, makes more sence to load up 1 20 than carry a couple of 5's, or a pocket full of loose rounds. We have to remember who might be reading these posts. Divide us every chance they get.

I thought something along the same lines but I didnt want to come off as sounding argumentive, to me by saying you dont need more than a X amount of rounds in your firearm while out hunting sounds like the people who say ARs and the such have no place in the field..that they are people killers only, again I will repeat I mean no offense to anybody by that statement, I dont want to start a mud slinging contest.Originally Posted By: masshunterTim, you were reading my mind, makes more sence to load up 1 20 than carry a couple of 5's, or a pocket full of loose rounds. Automatic firearm” means any firearm designed or specially adapted to fire a succession of cartridges with a single function of the trigger. “Automatic firearm” also means any semi-automatic firearm designed or specially adapted to fire more than thirty-one cartridges without reloading, other than a firearm chambering only .22 caliber short, long, or long-rifle cartridges.

Section 'E' From the ohio revised code lenny was talking about,,,so by this if you have a 32 round mag for a AR it is considered in the same class as a automatic firearm.

maybe i should just go ahead and get my tax stamp......X
