RRA best value for varmint trigger?

Is there a better deal/trigger than RRA varmint trigger for around $69? Have been looking at some single stage triggers ( Fallout 3.5 lb Rifle Drop In Trigger that I can get for around $85) but unsure of the quality?

My choice would be Timney or geisselle, the RRA two stage isn't bad either. No experience with the varmint trigger you mentioned.

For the price it's a fairly good trigger. Still kind of heavy for Varmint/Target shooting is my opinion. Before you spend the money on an upgrade like that, why not try a new set of springs. Palmeto State and Joe Bobs has reduced spring kits for about $11.

RRA makes 2 different 2 stage triggers. The older National Match 2 stage trigger that has came in there guns from the past is a 4.5lb trigger. They started making a new 3.5lb Varmint trigger either last year or 2013. I haven't got to shoot the new one but all the reviews I have seen on it are very good. I always liked the older 4.5lb one so I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 3.5lb one. Take care.

3.5# is one of the lighter AR 15 triggers you can find. I wouldn't actually want the trigger much lighter. I have the geissele high speed match rifle trigger. its capable of the lightest pull weights of any AR trigger I know of. mine is set for 2# 1st stage and another 1# to break. I don't want it any lighter.

YESS the RRA varmint trigger is the best deal going! especially at that price. I ordered 2 of them when they were on sale for $62 recently. a freaking steal for that kind of money. for that kind of money I say don't worry about monkeying with springs and other crap. a decent trigger is one of the most important things for making an ar 15 enjoyable. The RRA varmint is such a great trigger I would not have even bothered buying the geisselle. Mine actually pulls at 4#'s more than the 3.5 #'s they claim but then again the RRA national match is about 5 in the couple I have tested. The RRA varmint trigger rivals anything out there regardless of the price.

If that RRA 2 stage varmint is lighter than the old RRA 2 stage NM, and at a price point like that, should be a heck of a hunting trigger. As mentioned, a no brainier.

Check out jse surplus. They have a blue drop in for about $90. It's really a Black Rain Ordnance that for some reason they've machined off the logo. It's a 3.5# trigger and is pretty crisp.

Here's a comparative list of a few AR's I put together in the last year:

[*]Bushmaster Mil-Spec Trigger – Mil-Spec: 7lb 2oz[*]DPMS Mil-Spec Trigger – JP Yellow: 4lb 14oz[*]Bushmaster NM 2 Stage Trigger A: 3lbs 12oz 1st stage, 2lb 7oz 2nd stage, 6lb 3oz total [*]Bushmaster NM 2 Stage Trigger B: 3lbs 11oz 1st stage, 15oz 2nd stage, 4lb 10oz total

(Note: I have the second stages on both of these tuned differently intentionally. Baffles me that the 1st stage is within 1oz of each other - Springs must be truthfully identical!)[*]Rock River National Match 2 Stage Trigger – Stock: 2lb 3oz 1st stage, 3lb 5oz 2nd stage, 5lb 8oz total[*]Rock River National Match 2 Stage Trigger – JP Yellow: 1lb 8oz 1st stage, 3lb 6oz 2nd stage, 4lb 14oz total[*]Rock River Varminter NM 2 Stage Trigger – JP Yellow: 1lb 4oz 1st stage, 2lb 4oz 2nd stage, 3lb 8oz total[/list]

I personally like my second stage to be lighter than the first, so I favor the Bushmaster 2 stage over the Rock River, but the Rock River's are nice triggers.

You'll note that I combined JP yellow springs with some of the Rock River triggers, took a bit off of the pull weight on the 1st stage, but by design, it doesn't change the 2nd stage much.

Good detail there. I too change the trigger springs on the RRA, leave the hammer spring alone, and change the disconnector spring by punching out the pin that holds it in. That allows you to change the second stage pull. I can get first and second stage pulls in the 1.25 lb stage, or under, that way.

What replacement spring do you use? I've never pushed one out on an RRA trigger, but I've been tempted to do so on many occasions. BUT... I want to have the replacement spring in hand before I do so.

I use the JP spring, IIRC it comes with the same kit as the trigger spring. Trim 1/2 a coil at a time, test pull weight, repeat as necessary till the pull is to your liking. To hold the little pin back in, I degrease and use a dab of JB weld over the head of the pin. I've done this on, IDK, 7 or 8 at least over the last 4 or 5 years without problems.

I purchased a RRA lower kit with 2 stage NM trigger group. The trigger group with a 3.5lb spring kit is fine for a hunter grade rifle.

The Con, RRA over sizes the trigger and hammer pins 0.001", this made it very difficult to install with a hammer and punch. I had to beat the crap out of the pins to get them installed. These trigger group pins need to be installed with a press. I would not purchase this trigger group again.

X2

You might look at a JARD trigger. If you want a light trigger. (1.5-6 pound)
