Ruger 10/22 Mag Question

I have several rotary mags for my Ruger 10/22 that have accumulated some gunk over the years.
Does anyone know a safe way to clean these little things?
I realize the obvious answer is to buy new ones, but at $20 each, I'm trying to save the mags and money. I don't think they are 'dishwasher safe'. Will dipping/soaking them in solvent be safe? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Make SURE you have a very good pair of safety glasses on if you use any spray cleaners. That brake cleaner plays hell on the eyes. I know because I learned the hard way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Be carefull with some of the brake cleaners, they will soften some plastics no matter how hard or durabel you think they are. My suggestion is spray them down with WD-40 I mean really soak them might even fill a tray with it and let them soak over night and then rinse them in HOT soapy water. then give them a real light coat of WD-40 again. IF that dosnt work try denatured alcohol or mineral spirits. BUT remember that you will need to give them a light coat of oil to keep the springs rust free

take em apart and clean em. you can use brake clean wd40 toothpaste whatever. dissasemble them and clean the $hit out of em. its not rocket science.

On the forum "rimfirecentral" they have a sticky on how to take these magazines apart, clean them, then rewind them to perform better than new. I've tried it with both my .22LR and .22Mag mags and it works. If you don't want to take them apart, use very hot water and dishwashing detergent. Agitate them in a container (sealed or be very careful). After letting them soak for awhile, rinse in very hot water. Let them dry, spray some light oil, then shake it out vigorously. That's the safest way I know of.
