Ruger 10/22 magnum

I have been thinking about getting a 10/22 magnum. I see that Magnum Research's gun is on a 10/22 receiver but I went to the Ruger website and could not find a 10/22 mag I could buy from them. Did they quit making the 10/22 MAG? How hard is it to find a used one/ what are they worth?

ruger no longer makes them. you can still find them used for a hefty price. i would go the magnum research route, they are nice rifles.

Yea no kidding , get your wallet out if you are serious about getting one. Save the money and trouble getting it accurate by a 77/22 mag instead

There is a Magnum Research in the f/s section. I have a MR .22mag and it shoots excellent.

I have both Ruger 77/22 and the MR.22mag. I prefer the MR.

Ruger gave up on the .22 Mag. They tried dual extractors, then the bolts started breaking at the second extractor cut.

Look in the online ads for an H-K 300, that was a good semi-auto design. The Magnum Research and Volquartsen rifles are good stuff, too. Not sure they're worth that kind of money, but you don't have many options if your heart is set on a 22 WMR.

They produce the receiver themselves. It's not Ruger, and it's got a Weaver rail built as one-piece with the reciver. They also product their own bolt based on a different design than Ruger had (gas assisted blowback".) They carry 22 WMR magazines, too, for $20 each.

That's not a bad deal right there, in my opinion. You don't see many complaints about their rifles, and they'll stand behind their products if you have an actual problem.

Here's an example:

Quote:For any customer who has purchased a Magnum Research .17HMR rifle, and has a concern
about this issue, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-772-6168, Monday-
Friday 8:30-4:30 CST. By your request, if you decide to return your rifle, Magnum Research
will either refund the purchase price of the rifle, or replace the rifle with an equivalent one in a
different caliber.

That beats a "coupon" like Remington scammed people for, if you catch my drift.

Thanks for the info there is a gun show next week and I was thinking about going and seeing if I could buy a ruger. Better just go with the MR

You didn't say what you wanted the gun for or it's intended purpose but I too was in search for a .22M Semi. The cheapest option is the Remington 597 mag. Not sure if they are currently in production but I know many distributors still have em available. $400 price range IIRC.

I finally gave up on the .22mag semi's though. Still in search of a .22mag and want faster follow shots than a bolt gun so I've opened up the search to include levers and pump guns. That will make your search much much easier and still allow for fast follow ups and high fun factor. Also save some dime vs. the MR's.

I bought a Mag Research WMR and despite the price I'm glad I bought it. It seems to be the perfect rifle for calling coons IMO. However I dont really care for the elevated weaver rail. The rail itself is fine, but what is the point of elevating it? It is too tall for me and I considered taking it to a smith to have it milled off and tapped for regular mounts, but I hate to destroy the resale value. Also it has had a couple of FTF's with the soft nose Win grey box, which naturally is its preferred round for accuracy. Every other ammo has feed flawlessly.
Still, I really like the gun.

Not to water down your fire, but I've steared clear of 22 Mag semi auto's. Feeding, and general functioning of that long 22 Mag round is asking a lot from a semi auto rifle.
I did have, and loved, the Ruger 77/22 mag I had and it was as accurate as any 22 Mag sold. I sold it as I am hot on 22 Hornets that are my latest passion...

I have tried the Remington 597M and now have a Volquartsen Deluxe.
The 597 was accurate but had feeding issues that made me uneasy about trusting it. After several attemps to correct the problem I found a used Volquartsen and just moved on.
The Volquartsen is pricey but used was atleast do-able. I do not regret buying the Volquartsen at all.
I have fired several hundeds of rounds through it with out a single failure to feed or failure to fire. EXTREEMELY trust worthy.
When I recieved the rifle from the previous owner it did malfunction occasionally BUT one pnone call to Volquartsen and they told me what was wrong, improper cleaning and lubrication. They told me what to do and 10 minutes later it was all great. The rifle has not had a single malfunction since, and that was 2 years ago now.
Accuracy is above average but I am sure there are less expensive mags out there that shoot just as good, I had one but it was a Marlin levermatic from the 60's and like a dummy I traded it off in the early 90's.
