Ruger 10/22 Magnum

Wondering if anyone owns a 10/22 magnum, or has experience with one?

I wasn't away that Ruger made a mag. Apparently only for a few years.

Was there a reason for the short run or are they as dependable as the regular 10/22?

I noticed the high price tag for a used one on gun broker.

What about the remington 597 in the mag. Which is a better gun for the money.

I picked one up in a trade a couple of years ago. Only had it out once. Ran 100-150rds through it and it functioned flawlessly. I've heard they are prone to feeding issues. Neat little rifle.

I had two 597 in 17HRM that I gave to my two nephews for Christmas presents. They were rebarreled into 22mags and they shoot outstanding and I have never seen any feeding issues with them. Fun guns to shoot running jackrabbits with and very accurate.

I was looking into a semi .22 mag as well and the Ruger 10/22 mag was my first choice, until I saw they were going for $650+. I then looked into the Rem 597 Mag and decided against it. I have the 597 .22LR and its....ok. So since its....just ok to me, I am not going to drop the $$$ on the WMR version plus the reviews I read on it were pretty bad. CZ makes a Model 512 that has peeked my interest but I am still researching the rifle.

There's always Magnum Research, but they're pricey, too. The triggers blow in them, so you'll have to take that into consideration.

My MR has been super reliable and its been very accurate.

That trigger is a $70 fix and it uses standard 10-22 aftermarket parts. Drop a Power Custom hammer and adjustable sear in there and you've got a 3 pound trigger you can adjust the creep out of.

That's what I'd get if I wanted a 22 Mag. Very nice.

Just bought a cz512 really like it. Its nice and light weight and very accurate. Only thing I dont like is the trigger, have to do some work on that.

I have a Magnum Research 10/22 and love it. It was about $600 if memory serves me correctly. The bolts are bad about breaking on the Ruger models.

Yeh, hunting rabbits with them, they are alot of fun. and getting the gophers(GOD-send)

in your yard and other varmints in your yard its fun. having them set up with a simple good 3x9 scope with good light thru the scope and lots of clips more fun.

the down size---not that accurate. i always get 1/2" - 1" groups.

had a automatic browning at one time---very accurate.

10/22---another good thing, you can add on to it. browning not much you can do with it, but add on a scope. Ammo still cheap.

Have a nice day.

Wish I would have bought about 20 of these when they were in production, who would have guessed how much they would be worth? Tough to find for less than $800 now. Crazy, for a rifle that was probably $300-350 new.

I have one but all that is left of it is the action. I put a Clark 17HMR barrel, Hogue stock, Volquartsen trigger in it and love it. I know that they say you shouldn't be shooting the HMR in a semi auto but I've been using this one for years and love it. It is extremely accurate. I always wondered if the reason Ruger quit making the 22Magnum was that too many people were switching them over to 17 HMR. Who knows?

I have three 10-22mags and all work flawless. Before I got my first one they were still listed in the Ruger catalog. I tried to order one and the gun dealer said his distributor "believes they were discontinued." I couldn't believe Ruger would just drop that rifle...I always thought they were great guns so I called Ruger to ask if it was discontinued and if so what was replacing it. The lady said "we will never manufacture another semi auto 22 magnum, we lost money on the 10-22 mag." I asked why and her reply was that so many of them came back to the factory for feeding problems, most of which she said couldn't be solved because it was due to inconsistencies with the ammo available. After now having owned several I can say the first ones had one extractor, then they retrofitted warranty guns and new manufactured ones with a new bolt that had two extractors. This didnt really solve much so the last production run guns have a fluted chamber to help make the fired case come out of the chamber. Ruger blames the ammo and I have to say there is something to that because none of my guns jam and I always buy good quality ammo. I also keep my guns clean. I believe there is also an inherent issue with that long of a case and its pressure levels trying to work in a blowback action. Blowback type actions always function best with shorter lower pressure cartridges. The round fires, the case expands and it is still expanded against the chamber walls when it starts to try and move the bolt. All that said, I love mine and wouldn't sell any of them.
