I have three 10-22mags and all work flawless. Before I got my first one they were still listed in the Ruger catalog. I tried to order one and the gun dealer said his distributor "believes they were discontinued." I couldn't believe Ruger would just drop that rifle...I always thought they were great guns so I called Ruger to ask if it was discontinued and if so what was replacing it. The lady said "we will never manufacture another semi auto 22 magnum, we lost money on the 10-22 mag." I asked why and her reply was that so many of them came back to the factory for feeding problems, most of which she said couldn't be solved because it was due to inconsistencies with the ammo available. After now having owned several I can say the first ones had one extractor, then they retrofitted warranty guns and new manufactured ones with a new bolt that had two extractors. This didnt really solve much so the last production run guns have a fluted chamber to help make the fired case come out of the chamber. Ruger blames the ammo and I have to say there is something to that because none of my guns jam and I always buy good quality ammo. I also keep my guns clean. I believe there is also an inherent issue with that long of a case and its pressure levels trying to work in a blowback action. Blowback type actions always function best with shorter lower pressure cartridges. The round fires, the case expands and it is still expanded against the chamber walls when it starts to try and move the bolt. All that said, I love mine and wouldn't sell any of them.
