Ruger 77/17 Hornet

FWIW, Timney makes what they call a trigger upgrade kit that consists of a new sear and new spring. I've never installed that specific kit from Timney but Volquartsen used to make the same kit and I put one of those in a 77/17 and it made a HUGE difference. It cost a little more then just the spring only kit but I can just about promise you it'll be the best 55 bucks you can spend because not only does it lighten the trigger but it also gets rid of all that creep/pretravel which a spring only swap won't do. The difference is night and day!

I had a Ruger 77/17 hornet. It was poor accuracy wise, even after a trigger job, shimming the bolt and glass bedding. I sold it.
Then I bought an Anschutz 1771 17HH. It’s expensive, but super accurate, 1/2” or better.
I wish I had put the money I wasted trying to get the Ruger accurate, on the purchase of the Anschutz.

Ive heard that with the Ruger its a 50/50 chance getting one that shoots. I have total praise for the CZ 527. Ive owned 6 over the years their incredibly accurate. My 17 Hornet is no exception. I load for it and use 20 gr Nosler Hollow points. My load is pretty hot and my chronograph velocity is 3812. Id spend the money and get one. I see them often on Gun Broker. I was thinking about having a Lilja barrel installed and having it chambered in the 17 Ackley Hornet. Im betting that it will do 3900!!

I have one, purchased new. I do not recall what my 100 yard groups were. American Eagle 40gr were the best factory. My reloads were a little better but not great so I put on a Lilja, it now is almost a tack driver. If I had to do it over again I would go with standard 22 Hornet. I had a Ruger 77 22/Hornet, it was may favorite prarie dog gun, wish I never got rid of it. The woman that has it doesn’t use it, never hunts but won’t sell it back.

That sounds like an ex wife?
