Ruger American 22-250 Predator Magazine...

Hey guys,
I just bought my first predator gun, I got a Ruger American Predator in 22-250 and topped it with a Burris MTAC 4.5-14x42. Took it to the range today, and to say the least I am quite satisfied. No recoil, looks good, shoots well, but I do have one complaint. The Magazine isn't very good, and is pretty difficult to load. Does anyone know if they sell a replacement that is better material or anything?

That was my one and only complaint with the 22-250 american. It fed the rounds OK but they pointed downward in the magazine pretty bad, looked like a failure waiting to happen so I traded it off. Not gonna say it was bound to happen but I just didn't feel 100% comfortable with it.. But that's just me..

It took me a second to get used to the ruger rotary magazine. Make sure you are pushing the cartridges straight down into the mag and not trying to slide them in from the front

I dont have one but have heard complaints from several. A guy at a local gunshop emphasized to me completely unsolicited "I have not had trouble with the mag yet!" .

I have one in 22-250 and 243. I have not had any issues with the mags at all. I feel they are easy to load. As stated above, make sure you are pushing the round straight down.

Was definitely concerned about the magazine when i first recieved mine but after 150 rounds, i still haven't had a failure or hang up. On the other hand a buddy of mine purchased one in 223 and it hangs up on the 5th round everytime. Really wish they would have designed them with metal feed lips instead. Im sure we will see someone out there making 10 round mags for these before long.

Thanks, will pass that along to him.

My American in.223 had the same issue, I called Ruger and they sent me a replacement mag with no questions asked, Ruger has great customer service.

The follower was not in the proper position on the original design, I still have the defective mag and it don't matter what you do the 5th round jams EVERY single time. It will do this even if your just unloading it by hand. They sent me a new mag in 5 days and it has never had a feeding problem and has never been a problem to load.

They realized they had a problem and corrected it, however by the time they changed it they had already shipped a ton of rifles with this problem.

After you mentioned this in another thread, I went and checked my mags for both the American predator and my Oly Arms UMAR, both in 22-250. In both mags the cartridges had a downward angle. I've never had a failure to feed in either rifle.

And I hope you don't, I just thought mine looked really bad. I also didn't like that you gotta cram the rounds down through the plastic mag, its bound to wear out at some point. I just think ruger could've done better with the design of the magazine. I personally like the way you load the tikka mags and the browning x bolt mags, way smoother design. I have no problem with " plastic " mags in general just in case someone thinks that's my issue with rugers magazine..
