Ruger American AICS mag conversion kit problem and my fix

Having cartridge advance issues that started 1 year after I bought the second RAR with the original magazines (Ruger sent me a replacement) I started looking into replacement stocks with AICS mags. I don't particularly like the looks of 'chassis' so had settled on MDT field stock or the Magpul hunter light (when it is available) but then seeing the weight of these and me having bought 2 RAR 243 compacts for their weight and size and my gun shooting sub moa as is, I decided to get the conversion kit.
The kit and the Magpul Pmag arrived Monday. The Mag would not go into the magwell even when it was not installed in the stalk. VERY TIGHT. So, I just 'took a file to it'. After filing both the front, back, and both sides it got easier but still tight, so I held it up to a light and saw that more needed removed from the sides. Repeated this until it went in and out smoothly.
After installing the magwell into the stalk the 'latch' would not engage the 'lip' of the catch at the back of the mag with the mag fully inserted. I had to file about 1/32" off the bottom of this lip. IF YOU DO THIS MOD MAKE SURE YOU MAINTAIN A 90 degree ANGLE FOR THE LATCH TO CATCH.
Hope this helps if anyone else might be thinking of this mod. I have run a few full mags through the chamber and have had no issues so am quite pleased.
I figure the problem exists because of manufacturing tolerances and 2 different manufacturers. Ruger does offer an AICS mag that holds 5 but since I have had issues with 3 of their standard mags, I am leery and the PMag can hold 6.

The bottom metal is made for metal AICS magazines that are thinner than the PMAG.
It's good that you were able to make them work in the RPR.
I tried without success to make a PMAG fit and function in my Savage Impulse Predator.

Just FYI I called ruger to replace my rotary magwell for a aics magwell they only have 2. They may not even have the 2. And they are not ordering more ... told I need to look in aftermarket
