Ruger American mag issue

The rifle feeds the first two rounds fine but the third and forth take a nose dive. Ruger says they are sending a new magazine. Has anyone else had this issue and did the mag fix it? Its a 22-250 if that makes the difference. Ruger was very nice about it by the way.

It is a known issue for the smaller calibers in the American Rifle. Ruger is aware of it and supposedly is working on a fix. Ruger customer service is excellent and they seem to take care of their business with no muss or fuss. One thing is this, many users report the issue arises when slowly working the bolt. When operating the bolt quickly and with a bit of "authority" the magazines feed reliably. I don't know if that is the case in your situation or not, might check it if you haven't.

Working the bolt quickly works with the first two but not 3 and 4. It seems like a weak mag spring maybe. Kind of a weak point but it is a cheap rifle. It shoots real good though. Maybe the mag will fix it.

I would only guess that its not just the mag spring, the cartridges point downward from the get go in the american 22-250.. At least mine did, as soon as I took notice to it, it found itself a new home.. Sucky mag design in my opinion.. My buddy loves his in 7-08, he says its not like mine was..

I had the problem with a 223 Ruger sent me a range tested mag that worked flawlessly. They have been working on the problem. The mag follower is not in the proper position, 1000s of rifles left the factory before the problem was discovered. As far as customer service Ruger is #1 (pun intended).

Yep had two different calibers replaced by Ruger's *Grade A* customer service. (I called. They answered. We talked. They shipped magazine promptly.)

The new ones work fine.

I had the same problem with my 22-250. Feed it fast helps. They sent me a new clip it does the same thing. It probably was one of the first rifles. I will have to contact them again. Sent Ruger an e-mail. Will update when they respond.

I had the same issue with mine, it is a .223 that I purchased about a year ago. I called Ruger and had a new mag with in a couple of days. This may be a low end rifle but it groups as well as my 700 BDL!

Poor Design out of poor materials and heck no it will not hold a candle with the Rem 700 sps in grouping in 223. The 223 is such a piece of crap, I will NOT sell it to any unsuspecting buyer...scared God will Strike Me Dead for doing such a horrible thing to anyone...probably to a kid!!

I don't know about .223 but I have no problem with accuracy of the 22-250. I have always liked Remington but the American shoots. As far as accuracy I am well pleased. Maybe I just got a good one.

That's harsh.

I called Ruger and told them that the second clip was doing the same as the first. Also that it was leaving a scratch on the throat of each round. They had UPS pick it up today! We will see what they come up with! Rudy

I must be in the same boat as you, I really like mine.

Rare for me to be Harsh, but in this case it deserves it. Anybody want to buy a 223?

Mine did the same thing. I called them and without question, they sent me 2 new mags that work perfectly. This is the second .223 Ruger American that I've owned, and both have been extremely accurate with Federal American Eagle 50 gr. varmint ammo.

Mine is in 22-250 and it shoots great. 50 gr. V-Max with IMR 4064. Clover leafs at 100 yards if I do my job. I have shot PD at 400 yards consistently. The clip sucks. I will see if sending in the rifle solves the clip problem. I hope so.........

For some reason it seems the 22-250 mags are more problematic than other RAR calibers. I've read of the new replacement mags not working correctly either. Did they ever get the 22-250 mags working properly?

The new mag came today. I cant find any difference in it and the old one. I miked it and still can find nothing. However so far it feeds perfectly. Not one glitch with the very same ammo. I think I am only going to load three and not four and maybe it will continue to work. For now it is good.
