Ruger American Rifle Predator .223

Hi my names Corey and I'm new to the whole forum stuff online. So I'm thinking about buying the Ruger .223 from there predator series for yote hunting. A guy I know bought the 22-250 and loves it but I wanted something I can possibly use for more than just coyotes. If and when I get it, I want to customize it a little bit. I want to buy a new synthetic stock, more of a tactical style but I just can't seem to find them anywhere online. All I find is Ruger 10-22 parts. I was also thing about a new barrel and bolt action if possible. I want it to be my souped up varmint gun! Can anyone tell me where I may be able to find an aftermarket stock, bolt action, and barrel. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

There isn't a large aftermarket for them quite yet. And I am not sure what will be available in the future. Boyds does offer some thumb hole and such, but nothing I'd call tactical.

If you really want a 'tactical' build, may I recomend the Remington 700 SPS Tactical? It will be around the same price of an American, after swapping the stock. I got a Rem 700 pollice in 223 that is sort of a tac type build, and its a real shooter. Savage makes some good rifles as well, get an Axis and put it in a Boyd's Tacticool model stock...Lots of options as the market for the RAR is limited, thus far.

I guess a better question is, what do you mean by 'tactical' stock?

Question..... why would you buy a new complete rifle just to take it apart and replace components? the Rem 700 action would be a better foundation to build on. Then you buy the components YOU want once. Then it will be Souped up.

I agree with Richard50, I have a Ruger American Rifle, not the predator model. It is a good reliable gun as is but why get it and dump all this money into it only to get to the level of a Remington 700 or other rifle with a proven track record. Please don't take this wrong but most people cant even shoot the stock rifles they own now at the rifles full potential. You would be better off getting the American and putting some high end optics on it and get to really know your rifle and its limitations, You do that and you will probable be a better shot with that gun then some of these guys who spend 2 or 3 times as much tricking out a 700 but yet cant shoot it.

If it were me I'd buy a the ruger predator in 243, slap on a nice optic and spend the rest of the money on ammo....the 243 is more versatile than the .223. Not knocking the 223 but the 243 can reach out there a little better...now if your wanting a "souped" up rifle buy a rem 700 sps varmint or tactical, put it in a manners t5a and put a high end leupold or night force on it

Thank you guys for your opinions. I will defiantly take them into consideration
I will look at the Remington sps. I've always been a huge fan of Remington but I always thought there rifles were kind of expensive and I wanted to get a good shooting reliable gun for a reasonable price and be able to put a little money into it. I figured if I'm gonna get a gun and one I like. I might as well slap a couple things on it to make it look appealing if I'm gonna have it the rest of my life ya know. But again I appreciate the insight and I will do some re-thinking.

Watch for sales, the Rem 700 can be had for just about the same as an RAR.

Rem 700 ADL

$50 difference

CSouthworth321,,,,I have a very accurate Remington 700 SPS Tactical that has an upgrade to the HS Tactical stock..Right now it sports a Burris 8-32x optic that I use for precision shooting...Mine is one of the earlier ones that came out with a 1/12 twist rate barrel...The downside is that with the stock and optic, it weighs in at approximately 11 pounds...A little heavy for the normal carry hunting rifle..You might be able to cut that weight down by about a half pound by going to a lighter/smaller optic..

I think the newer ones have a 1/9 twist and that gives a little wider variety of bullet weights for use..The HS stock has an aluminum bedding block that saves a lot of future bedding problems...

"Tactical" rifles, by their very nature and intended use, tend to be on the heavy side for stability during distance shots..

I think I've made up my mind. Im lookin at the rem 700 sps compact. Great looking gun NY the way. I might wait to see if it goes on sale but I think that's what I'm gonna get. Any other advice keep it coming. I can always use more advice about guns.
