Ruger Guide Gun in 338 RCM

I am considering ordering one of these rifles. They're priced nicely, I assume as the chambering hasn't gained traction as it may have intended. Yes, I understand it is essentially a 338-06, not really a magnum. That doesn't scare me too much, honestly...I will just have to buy a lifetime of brass from the get go.

With all of that said, does anyone have any experience with the Guide Gun model 77? I am wondering how well the break and corresponding weight works when swapped out. The ultimate plan it to go with a can, but that is a bit down the road.

The intended use for this is moose, mostly...and I don't have any wide-calibered rifles in my battery. I am a bit of a fan of oddity, so the RCM piques my interest.

338 RCM/ 338-06 reminds me of Elmer Keith.

I was interested in a .338 Federal, but limited use tossed it out the door. I live in a "shotgun" state.

I am moving to a very non-shot gun state, hence my interest. Alaska is on the horizon.

We didn't expect it!! We tossed both bases on "the list" and Big Air Force said, "Head North!" I have been trying to get there for 15 years, and now I am. We can't wait!

I have a Ruger 338rcm, not the guide gun. I really like it, a little kick but not bad. So far I have got under 1 inch groups.
