Ruger in 220 Swift

I took a Ruger 77 MKII in 220 Swift in a trade today and gotta say this rifle has a nice factory trigger and the all weather coating and laminate stock looks good. Does anybody know what twist these things have? Any good loads?

Should be a 14 twist IIRC. My Ruger VT shoots well with Varget and 50 grain V Max. Many good powder options for the Swift.

If I'm not mistaken your 220 Swift has a one in 14 twist. I don't own one in 220 Swift, but I do have three V/T's (which is what it sounds like based on your description) in 204, 22-250 and 25-06. I can't help you on loads, but these guns are capable .25 groups. Have fun with it.

Nice snag there to be sure. I hope that you hang onto it.

I have been a Swift owner/shooter/reloader for over 40 years. What kind of loads are you looking for and what do you want to with them? Paper? Colony varmints? Coyote? Deer? There are plenty of them out there and goodness knows I have shot many a thousand of them.

I have a Savage VLP with a 220 Swift Criterion barrel, 12 twist and it's a shooter for sure. I only took this one in trade as I believe I got the better end of the deal. The Ruger has a really nice trigger and as far as I know it's an untouched factory trigger. Rifle looks like it's brand new and the previous owner told me that there was around 60 rds fired. I'll throw on a scope and shoot up the factory ammo I got with it and maybe load some 50gr Noslers with H414 as my Savage really likes them. Not sure I'll keep it as the Savage is a keeper and don't really need another Swift but if it's a true shooter it might just hang around. It also came with a set of Hornady dies and those I'll sell. I love the Swifts.

I own a box stock spoter weight Hawkeye (walnut & blue) that is one of the most accurate factory rifles I've seen chambered in any cartridge. It became a definite keeper the first time I shot it.

MOST factory Swifts were a 1 in 14 twist. If it has the original factory barrel, then I'm guessing it is a 14 twist.

I started shooting the Swift in 1978 and my first one was a Ruger M77. I shot it for years and it was a tack driver. Like a lot of guns, I wish I would have kept it because it was the 200th year edition and had beautiful wood on it. There are many, many loading options for the Swift and I have tried many of them over the years.

I would still like to find a Ruger #1V (older one with the red kick pad) in the 220 Swift... one of these days.
