I was wondering hoping someone out there may have this particular rifle and shoot the 40 grian nosler ballistics.

I was wondering what recipe worked good for you??
I'm currently trying the 40 grian orange tips on top of 10 grains of IMR 4227, CCI primers, and winchester brass. Not having much luck.

Any info would be greatly appreciated /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif!!

My son has a M77 Hornet that likes the Winchester 46gr HP factory load. First time out, after 50 rounds and a good cleaning, it shot 1.5" at 100. We haven't done any reloading yet. I hear from a LOT of people that the little Hornets can be really finicky about the loads they shoot. Keep at it. There have been a few posts on here recently about loads for the Hornet. Do a search and you'll probably find them pretty easily.
 
Here is an accurate load for a 22 hornet I worked up for a local kid and his CZ.

9.5 grains of Alliant 2400 Mag handgun powder
45 grain Sierra "Solid Base" hornet bullet #35487
CCI pistol primer

Best load out of his gun. It has proven itself on fox, bobcat, and one coyote so far.

I passed this recipe onto a fella who's Ruger was giving him fits, and he also favors this load too now, so I'd say give it a try.
 
An excellent load for my M77 Hornet is 13.0grs Lilgun under a 45gr bullet. I use a Barnes 45gr XLC for coyotes. Try small pistol primers and Lilgun powder. These can make the Hornet shine. Also, I replaced the trigger spring and sear with a kit from Timney, and it made a noticeable improvement.

If you own a Hornet,you really need to be using Lilgun powder and small pistol primers. Better accuracy, higher velocities and lower pressures...how can you beat that?

Did you have to use a drop tube to get the 13 grains of Lilgun to settle in or vibrate the cases any? One of the reasons I didn't use more than 10 grains of the IMR 4227 is because it was right up next to mouth of the case. Almost a compressed load I'd guess you'd say. If I went 11 grains it would be. I've never loaded any compressed loads before. You're def. right 22-Khornet. you can't beat that from what it sounds like.

A friend of mine who's been loading for 20 + years said some of my newer manuals won't tell me how much you can realy get our of a Hornet due to liability issues.

My load of 13.0gr Lilgun and a 45gr XLC generates about 2900fps. With a regular 45gr softpoint, it gets about 2825fps. Hogdon says the pressure is around 32-33,000, a full 10,000 less than other powders.

13.0grs does fill up the case (Winchester cases) and is a compressed load. Remington cases have a little more room in them. No drop tube, but I will tap the case a bit to settle the powder.

Make the powder charge adjustments in very small, as in 0.2gr, increments.
 
I finaly discovered a good shooting load with 10.5 grains of IMR 4227. I tried 11.5 of Lil Gun the velocity was awesome across the chronograph. The primer still looked good also. I believe by heating it up a little more with the lil gun I'll get some good results. But I'll play with that later. In the meantime it's time to get some fur down /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif.
 
My m77/22H likes 10.5 gr of 296 and the 40gr verminator, or the 35gr v-max.

Last time I tried the 40gr ballstic tip they where seated to deep once I got them to fit in the mag? plastic tip on the bullet made them to long for my taste, the case mouth was past the ogive on the bullet? what are you doing different? or am I on something? or what?
 
The K man is all over it Lil gun is the way to go with the hornet. I have found very little difference with small pistol or small rifle primers. I've had good groups with the 40gr Vmax, and 45gr hornady hornets.
