Ruger M77 Hawkeye won't extract / eject

YEP. I finally have a Ruger that is giving me a problem. It's a new Hawkeye in .243 that absolutely refuses to hold onto the case as you pull the bolt back. It just drops the case about 1/3 of the way back. Sometimes it doesn't even pick it up from the chamber. This gun is new and did this right out of the box. I took the bolt assembly outside and cleaned it good with CLP, but that didn't help. A controlled feed action isn't supposed to release the case at all until it hits the ejector. Never had one do this before.

I know I'll probably end up sending this thing back to Ruger, but has anyone experienced this before?

Nope. Just goes to show you that Rugers have very little function-ability problems I suppose.

It seems to be a problem with the extractor. Controlled feed actions are usually fool proof. Since it's my son's rifle and he's not going to shoot anything but paper until next Fall, I'll just wait until about February when they are a little less busy and send it in for repair.

I bought a brand new Ruger 77 22-250 about 30+ years ago did the same thing would drop the empty almost every time, tried my buddys bolt from his 22-250 (didn't fire it) to see if they extracted all the way and it worked, cant remember if I just sent the bolt or the gun but they got it fixed, shot the barrel out years ago now its a 22 BR turned it into a single shot, removed the ejector, because the case is to short and they would fall off before it was all the way back, just pull back and remove case by hand and replace it in box, don't have to search for them in the grass.

Had an old m77.338wm that had feeding issues, it was a semi crf, or so I was told. The rear end of the case would pop out while chambering. Real pain in the butt.
