Ruger m77. What's it worth.

I have the opportunity to buy a ruger m77 300 win mag. It's an 80s something model. But all in all it's in pretty good shape. The only draw back is that the metal has been parkerized. I know that really decreases the value but it really dosen't look that bad lol.

Before I tell the asking price; What's it worth and what would you be willing to pay.

To me the flat finish is more useful, not less desirable. But, I would rather have a Cerakote/Teflon/Duracoat/etc. finish to reduce the possibility of exterior rust even more than parkerization. The older I get, the more I think blued/wood guns are great works of art (some), and pretty, but just like pretty women and pretty trucks - require more maintenance and $$, and don't necessarily perform better. I like the new flat finish Hawkeyes - finished like a hunting gun.

Value - should be around $400 if I were to be interested.

Rule of thumb, from a collector's perspective, which will be applied should you ever try to trade it in a gun shop, is... If it's been refinished, about half new value. I paid right at $700 for my Mark II last fall so --> $350 - $400

I recently sold a m77 mkii with the boat paddle synthetic stock. I advertised it for $425. Sold the first day the ad came out and I probably got 20 calls for it. It however wasn't refinished and was stainless. For yours, I'd agree, 350-400.
