Ruger Precision 243

I have to have one! For anyone who already does, what is the range report? Or any other likes or dislikes? Optics used? Best loads?

I'm not even able to order one around here yet. Wanting one for bench fun and long range PDs.

The guys over at snipershide.com are all over 'em, and like 'em a lot. Good testing write-up there. Aftermarket barrels to swap in are in the making now.

You should like the Ruger Precision Rifle facebook page. Lots of info, reports, and reviews. I followed because I was interested in one, but decided on doing a semi-custom Tikka build instead. It's a good page though.

My buddy recently bought one in the Creed. Pretty accurate with 140 Amax factory ammo. We took a few shots to get him zeroed at 100, then a few for the Magnetospeed, then he was banging steel out to 900 in no time.

I haven't bought factory ammo in years, so I'm not sure if anyone makes any good factory stuff to use the long skinny bullets that the 8tw 243 has.

If I didn't reload and was gonna have to shoot factory, I would get the Creed
If I did reload, I would get either the Creed or 243 and be happy

Me 2! I have yet to see one in stock anywhere around here though.. I talked to Jeff Quinn (gunblast.com) he lives in my same town and he said it shoots like a dream.

My neighbor has in in 6.5 Creedmoor. No scope on it yet but it handles nicely. Sportsman's here gets them in pretty regularly. The last batch was one in .243 and two in 6.5. $999.

I have a 243 model and so far it is a good shooting gun. I mounted a leupold vx6 4/24 on mine and when i do my part it shoots 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with 107 matchkings and h4350. The stock is solid which in the pics it looks kinda flimsy but is really nice. A lot of guys on snipers hide were complaining about there gun not having the rail lied up straight but mine came perfect. The trigger was the biggest surprise, its awesome for a factory gun. I run a jewel in my 700 and geissle sde in my ar 10s but i dont think i will mess with the factory ruger. The only thing i changed was the bolt shroud which i got from long rifles inc. there aluminum one is pretty slick. The other neat thing is it comes with 2 pmags but also runs ai mags so you can actually jam 105 bergers. I just got some bergers from a friend and didnt think they would work at mag length but after loading them there will be plenty of room. For the money you really cant beat the options it comes with. Its a 7.7 twist so i cant wait to try some dtac 115s and rl26 when i can find it.

I have a RPR in .243 with 540 rounds through it so far. It shoots awesome making .3 all the way to 700 yards. I mounted a 6-24x50 Vortex Viper PST on it. I have a buddy with the 6.5 set up the same way his shoots .5 with either of us on it. Both of us are planning to rebarrel in 6.5x47L over the winter.
No problems from either rifle. We were banging steel at 1120 last week, what a blast.

For "factory" match ammo, Copper Creek is the only company that loads the heavy .243 bullets. For 6.5 Creedmoor, Hornady and now PRIME Ammunition is making 6.5CM match ammo for around $23/box.

My 2 cents,
I'm not saying what's better than another. I've been shooting a rock River AR for the past two years ( I own two of them) I've killed a lot of coyotes in the past two years. I love my 223's but decided to get a 243 and see if I could shoot with more confidence. I did an extensive amount of research, reading reviews and studying articles written by anyone I could find.

I settled in on a new T3 stainless fluted tikka. I've had it camo coated, added a suppressor. Installed a vortex HD 5x20x50 scope. The gun itself weighs in at just under six lbs, the scope weighs about three lbs, the suppressor weighs about 14 ounces. The gun feels alittle top heavy. But that's only because the gun is so light. I have to admit I'm not used to a scope of that size and quality, It almost looks like the HUBBLE TELESCOPE mounted on my gun but WOW! It is amazing. Im so glade I spent the money on the optic. I went to the range to sight it in and shot out to and including 600 yards, it was absolutely right on the money. I'm shooting 75 grain hornady factory vmax. It is literally shooting almost exactly what the applied ballistic app for my iPhone says it would.

I was worried about getting the new gun monkey off of my back, by killing my first coyote. I've shot 4 bullets over the past 8 days and haven't missed yet. (6 coyotes, 4 with the 243 and 2 with the bennelli) I have never considered myself a good shot but I gotta say my confidence is as higher than it has ever been. Every shot I just expect the coyote to drop and so far it has. With the suppressed bolt gun the THWAP sound of the vmax hitting the coyote is louder that the report from the muzzle blast. Just abit of caution, IT IS NOT FUR FRIENDLY AT ALL!

I absolutely love the gun. Hope you don't mind the pic, I included it so you could zoom in on the gun and see how things sized up.
