Ruger Ranch Rifle

Looking at the bolt in .308 for my 11yr old. It will end up suppressed. I just want MY rifle back (Gen 2 .308) After shooting suppressed he doesn’t want to shoot anything that’s not. It’s either buy a new rifle or get his little Youth .243 threaded.

I think I would go ahead and build out the 243, it will do all he needs and he has some years to go before he would feel good about the 308 {recoil}.
 
He’s shooting the .308 now…unless that Ranch kicks a lot more than the American Gen 2. If you watch his video the only .243 shot was the loud Kaboom! He’s shot 4 does and his buck with the .308. I’ve found with kids that it’s the noise more so than the kick. That’s why he won’t shoot anything other than my suppressed rifle,lol.
 
I seem to recall you mentioned his youth rifle before, and my memory is failing me on it. Savage? Ruger? or ??
The thought of a switch barrel setup comes to mind (.243 Win and .308 share the same headspace gauge)
(but yeah I'd thread the boy's muzzle even if I got him another rifle, or set him up on a switch barrel.)

It’s a Ruger Youth or compact .243. All my rifles were fine until I started shooting suppressed, lol. He shot his first deer this year with his rifle and after the shot we both agreed we ain’t doing that again. He’s been night hunting with me shooting hogs over the summer and that BOOM felt like it had us concussed. He and his brother have been using my only suppressed day rifle I have and I’d like to use it some myself. Just figured the Ranch would be the way to go. I had a Predator .308 that was threaded and my oldest “borrowed” it which probably means I ain’t getting it back either.
 
I bought a 308 ranch Gen2 this past summer, wanted something a bit lighter than my 06, and a bit more punch than the 243. Put a suppressor on it and worked up a decent load 150grain NoslerBT, shoots MOA and is a dream to carry. I hunt mostly NH/Maine woods so having a compact rifle is really nice.
