S&W 629 Classic: sights and mounts

I recently bought a S&W 6.5” 629 Classic and I am now thinking of putting a scope on it. Is there a mount available that would allow me to use quick release rings and detach the scope when I’m in thick woods allowing me to use the irons? So far I’ve only found mounts that require you to remove the rear sight.

Also, when I sighted it in, the rear sight needed to be moved as far right as possible to get the point of impact near the center. It is still 2 inches to the left at 40 yards! Should I contact S&W about this problem, or is there something I could do to adjust it more?

Thanks,
Jeff

I would cnontact Leupold for mounts. You may have to drill and tap the frame for what you want. Most of the cheap mounting systems for these handguns are just that, Cheap!

On the sight-in, are you shooting it from a rest?

I haven't used a rest yet, just shot it off hand with about 6" goups at 40 yds. The rear sight moved all the way to the right is messing with my eyes. It looks really weird and is hard to get used to. All my other pistols have fixed sights with the exception of my 22.

I am thinking that it could be how I'm holding it. Maybe I'm pulling it sideways when I squeeze the trigger. But I've never had this problem before with anything else.

Not sure about the mount, look around online. Check Midway, Brownells
It sounds like you're pulling off. No amount of adjustment will fix that. I had a hard time getting over the flinching, I cured it by starting off with a 22 revolver, then up to a 357 with 38 loads. shooting 100 -200 rounds per session. Then up to my 44 revolver,, Same model as yours shooting 44 special loads again 100-200 rds per session, then onto some mild 44 mag stuff and within notime, you'll be shootin' like ol' Jerry Miculek! Today, I can set up 6 bowling pins at 35 yds and hit them all in about 5 seconds. This is with very stoutly loaded ammo. Also for this exercise I'm using my 4" 329 lightweight. My goal for this exercise is to be able to consistently hit all six in under five seconds at 50 yds. I know one day I'll be confronted with a pack of wild boars just intent on running me down, hope there's not more than six, or I better start practicing my speed reloading!

I know I'm not flinching. I wish that was it, I overcame that once already, and I could do it again. I left 2 fired rounds in the cylinder a few times, then spun it before I closed it. Never flinched.

I shot my ruger Mark II and Kahr pm9 while I had it out and didn't have any problems with them. I am going to take it over to the neighbor who is an excelent shot with his own 44 and 357 and see if it is the same for him.

I am going to look into having it tapped for a scope mount forward of the rear sight.

Thanks,

Jeff
