Saiga .223/5.56

Never thought I would say this since I'm a big american gun fan, but I have been looking at AK type options for .223 and 5.56 caliber. Just to hold off my want for the perfect AR which I do not currently want to spend big bucks on.

Here's what I have found.. IZ-114 Saiga Rifle .223 Rem for $389. Seems like a great deal and research on this gun has led to reviews of 5 stars and no less. Accuracy seems fair with match ammo shooting under 2" (not a bolt gun standard, but good none the less) and cheap ammo around 4". This was based off many reviews and articles about the gun. I realize this isn't great, but neither were the guns of 40 years ago. Optics can be mounted easily and there are many upgrade options. Has anyone had any experience with an AK for predator hunting/home carbine? What are your opinions?

Thanks

The Saiga would be fine for Predator hunting, they are very reliable and as you said parts and up grades are readily available.

The saiga 7.62x39 works well and will hold minute of coyote at 350yds with the open sights. I haven't tried the .223 so i can't comment on it.

J&g sales has had them on sale from time to time at $299. Yes the barrel is pinned but it really doesn't matter, they shoot and are easy to clean just the way they are.

a good used mini 14 will be just as accurate, function everytime you pull the trigger, hunt predators, and still beat the zombies off with the club of a stock when you run out of ammo, american made...oh, and around the same price. That being said, I know a few guys with the siaga and they love them.

I'd keep saving for the AR you want. You'd still be wanitng it after getting one of these. After the AR start saving for one of these if you still want one.

You can install a bullet guide so will accept ak mags. Takes about 10 minutes and mine was about $20 and came with the drill bit and tap.

I kid I kid.

Haha yea i should have been more clear. I graduate in may and start full time. I do not currently have the cash for an AR, college takes money, but I want a new toy. Yea that's the kid in me lol.. And besides, when you cant afford a gun, why not buy a cheaper one? I never discourage buying assault rifles and accumulating them. You never know when they might stop selling the things for the sole reason that they "look scary" haha thanks for the advice though guys. Chances are I'll save up for the souped up AR or a nice accurate bolt gun like a Tikka T3 CTR
