I am looking to buy a new rifle.Thw Sako grey wolf has caught my eye.The trouble is I don't have any experience with this company.I would like your honest opinions.

My decision is this, buy the grey wolf or buy a couple savages. Are the higher end rifles really worth the extra money? Also does Sako hold their value?Any opinions will be helpful.

I have two Sako rifles & several remington 700 & In my opinion Sako Rifles are one if not the best & VERY accurate, as far as holding their value, YES, just my two cents worth.

A Sako would be a good purchase and investment. They also guarantee 5 shoot MOA @ 100 yards.
If you want to spend a little less money but still get a great rifle with good resale then look at Tikka (made by Sako - same barrels) or the CZ rifles. You can pick up either of these for around $500-600

I shoot model 70 rifles but would not have a problem at all with a Sako, from my experience around them at the range have never heard a complaint from a Sako owner and have seen several there

I have 3 Sako Deluxe 75 short action rifles, and they are the finest rifles I own. Excellent metal-wood fit, deep blueing, crisp checkering, and beautiful finish. Every one of them shot 0.5-0.7" groups right out of the box. Someday I'll have a Grey Wolf in .223, but I'm temporarily sidetracked by the evil Black Rifle Disease.
Buy the Sako, and you'll never regret it.

Buy one, you'll be happy you did. I prefer the Finnlight model to all others, but hate laminated stocks and rifles that are heavier than they need to be...........2MG

Thanks for all the replies guys.It sounds to me that the only thing I need to do is decide on a caliber.I'm thinking that it's going to be a 25.06

Yep, go with the Sako and don't look back. Take care of it and it will gain in value. If you are bent on getting two rifles, get two Sakos, you can give me the second one. Any caliber will be fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

That's a heck of a deal. I just paid $1045 for a Sako .260 synthetic stainless. I thought I got a good deal. They are running around $1250 down here in TN.

I know one thing, I like my 75 much better than the new 85s. I don't care for the 85 stock at all. Not to mention all the modular doo-dads on the stock such as the ability to change out the cheek piece.

Hunt, I don't care for the look of the new stock but have not held one yet? Might be alright as you could shoot it left handed? I see a guy on Gunbroker talking about seconds from Sako somthing about "Y" guns?? Sales pitch??

Love my 75's

I thought I dreamed this whole 'Y' stuff up. I woke up one morning thinking about it and thought I dreamed it up. I guess not.

Just got back from the gunshop and looked at the Sako 75 Varmint and a Sako 85 .270 The set trigger on the Varmint model makes the CZ feel like pure junk! I originally went there to look at a CZ Varmint in 17 Remington and it's a great rifle for the price, but can't live with all that creep in the trigger. Tried it several times and depending on how you pull it, it breaks in several places. Very annoying. You need to KNOW when your trigger will break. The set trigger is great for the range, but I'd not trust myself with it with gloves or in the heat of battle----less than a pound, I'd guess...and the one I tried had a very loud "click" when it is set. Loud enough to blow your cover. The Sako was a dream in regular mode or set and silent. The price is just way up there on the Varmint model: I think it was like $1500 in blue and $1600 in SS laminated. The walnut was very low grade for that expensive a rifle, IMHO. Sako made that varmint model up until about 2003 in 17 Remington, I think. Sure would like one of those! The 75 and 85 are both nice, but the clip release is superior on the 85 without a doubt. Very secure and positive. Don't care for the stocks on any of them. The 85 in walnut is proportioned well and feels good, but has that "Italian designer" styling checkering is a heartbreaker. A Kimber or Cooper stock on the Sako would be the best of both worlds. If you can afford it, I can't imagine you would not love it and and I know they shoot. I'm not sure about the scope bases...are they a plus or a minus? The CZ was a minus because you have to use their ugly high rings to clear the bolt. The Sako bolt feels like an old Sig Sauer...sooo smooth. Anybody got a Sako 75 in .17 Remington they want to sell?
