Salt licks for coyote?

Hmmmm, sorry Ive never tried or really heard of that.. Sounds like it Might work given the right circumstances/situation but I dunno.

Welcome to PM, Whackem and Stackem !

I have deer hunted a salt lick for the last 5 years. Spend all day in this stand. Always see deer visiting it. Have shot several coyotes in this field but have never seen one at the salt lick. Doesn't mean they dont use it.....just that I have never witnessed it.

I have a deer cane block out for deer and have gotten 8-10 videos of coyotes visiting the block the only ones that i have seen fooling with the block are night time videos can't say for sure if they used it but it did stop them long enough to get them on the camera....trapperdoc

I have several pic's of Coyotes at my different salt licks during the day and at night...I have a pic of a Coyote even licking on one my big 50lb salt blocks and several pic's of them coming in to see what Deer have been using the salt licks.I have several pic's of Coyotes scent checking Deer Scrapes also....so that might be another thing to consider trying out too,set up one of the scent drippers and it could draw in a nice Big Buck or some Coyotes for You to shoot?

I know of several guys that have pic's of Coyotes urinating or leaving scat at the their salt/mineral licks too!

Another type of salt lick we make that seems to work really well is an Arm & Hammer Salt lick. You buy a Yellow & White box of the A & H Super Washing Soda (in the Fabric Softener Section)and get a 40-50lb bag of rock/solar salt....pick a good level spot and dig up the ground in about a 2-3 foot circle, breaking up the ground pretty fine with a shovel.Take 1/2 the box of A & H and spread it on the dirt mixing it in with the shovel, pour about 20-30lbs of the salt on the dirt then add the rest of the A & H on top and let the rain work it into the ground and the Deer and Animals love it!

Never be afraid to try new things. Sometimes you find out that there's not much wisdom in conventional wisdom.

That being said, I suspect that salt licks, if they do work, would work better in the summertime, but who knows. If it doesn't seem to be working now that it's fall, I wouldn't give up on the idea. Let us know.

The Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda/Powder enhances the salt and seems to make it more desireable to the Deer, some say it settles their stomachs too?We put out about 4 new A & H licks out last Fall and the Deer used them a lot and dug up the dirt/ground making a good size hole then we refreshed them every 2-3 months as needed!

We have put it out this late in the Fall and still had the Deer hit it,same as the salt blocks too....had a nice Big Doe come up and use it during the Nov Rifle Season last year that caused its demise!
