Sauer 100XT 6.5 CM VS Tika T-3 Ultralight 6.5 CM

I have a Tika T-3 Ultralight Stainless 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots lights out. I added a muzzle brake to it. It's a pretty long rifle. It's wearing a Zeiss Conquest V-4 6-24X50 and it shoots as good as any rifle as I have ever owned. Tomorrow, I'm picking up a Sauer 100XT Classic 6.5 Creedmoor. It will be considerably shorter(3.5 inches) than the Tikka but almost the same exact weight with the muzzle brake. Anyway, I will not be keeping both of them. I don't have enough time to shoot as it is and having two hunting rifles in the same caliber doesn't make sense. I really prefer shorter guns to hunt with as they are not as cumbersome and easier to get on target with.

Here's my question. What are the chances of the Sauer shooting as good as the Tika? I have read nothing but good things about them but I have never even held one let alone shot one.

I should have added the Tika is a 1-8 twist and the Sauer is a 1-8.6 twist.

That's probably what I'll do, except for take the brake off. That thing shoots too good. But what's your reasoning? Have you shot the Sauer? People say they shoot lights out. And I love the way the Tika shoots but there are things about it I don't like. Especially being a long action.

After reading your post, I googled searched the rifle. After watching a few videos, I just wasn't to impressed. No hands on as far as shooting but have handled a few. They remind me of a Savage Axis or maybe a Ruger American. IMO they fall into the "Budget Rifle" category. I'm a Tikka fan so I may be a little bias to.

I appreciate your input as always. I know you are probably right. I'm going to pick up the Sauer tomorrow. I'll just have to wait until I get my hands on it and see what I think. If I like the Sauer feel more than the Tika, the real test will be to shoot it after that. Thanks pyscodog!

I picked up the Sauer today. I really like the way it feels. The whole rifle is almost 5 inches shorter than my tika because of the brake that I added on the Tika. It is a little heavier but not as cumbersome because of the length. I have been sitting here watching videos of people shooting them and the accuracy is there for sure. I won't make any decisions until I shoot of course but it might be a keeper. I might have a Tika for trade before long!

I don't have a Sauer but I do have it's cousin, the Mauser M12 Impact in .308. I believe Sauer and Mauser are both owned by Blaser and use the same barrels. With that said, my Mauser is a hammer and shoots as well as my Tikkas. I did have to tighten the action screws out of the box as it was not grouping as well as others had posted. It has a longer LOP than the Tikka which I do not prefer. The trigger on my is right at 2 lbs right out of the box and is every bit as good of a trigger as my Tikka.

I see you have a Tikka for sale. Guess you made up your mind. Hope it works out in your favor. Please give us a range report!!

Will do! I really like everything about the Sauer so far. I went to see my gunsmith today so he could check it out for me and mount the scope but he was busy clearing trees. I'll have to put off shooting it until next Tuesday.

Why don't you mount the scope yourself? I've only had one scope mounted for me and that was when I was a kid. It was a botched job with stripped screws and scratches on the bolt from a flathead screwdriver slipping. I learned from that day that I'll do a better job than anyone else as it was mine. You'll also be able to set eye relief for you.

Anyway, congrats on the Sauer. I think you'll like it. My only complaint on the Blaser line of rifles in their LOP is too long for me.

A little constructive criticism if you don't mind.

1. Learn to mount your own scopes

2. Tikka has 2 k's in it.

Enjoy your new rifle!!!

Enjoy your new rifle!!!

I know how to mount my own scopes. My gunsmith is my friend that lost the shop he worked in for over 20 years. He is in a new shop and covid has made them struggle. I bring him all the work I can and buy as much stuff as I can from there to support them. And I know TIKA has two k's in it.

My gunsmith is also a good friend but he stays as busy as he wants to. He's getting up in age and he doesn't let gunsmithing get in the way of his outdoor hobbies these days although he stays pretty busy. I understand why you let your friend do the work now and good for you!! Kinda figured you knew how to spell Tikka. I was just messing with you on that one.

My gunsmith may be busier than I think. He went from a gun store that had been around forever (that closed down)to a used sporting good store that has a ton of stuff on consignment. Years ago when I first started going to him, he made numerous repairs for me on the spot and never charged me. Finally, I told him that I needed to pay and he told me to put ten dollars in the coffee jar! LOL! He has been my gunsmith ever since. I do my best to support him and the store because they are good people. Plus, I know he is a bad a$$ gunsmith and everything he has ever done for me has been perfect.

I personally would keep both but thats me. I have a Sauer 100 XT and it shoots as good as any tikka sporter that I have had or currently have. Chambered in .30-06, hoping to rebarrel in 7x64
