Savage 11 XP trophy hunter stock idea

.My thought is since I own a savage XP trophy Hunter and 6 1/2 Creedmore, which is short action. And it's hard to get a stock without having to buy the bottom metal for another $100, would it work to buy a blind mag stock and use my detachable mag, after I take it apart, as the blind mag? So I would essentially change my detachable mag for a blind mag. I'd still have to fit the bottom bolt release to the stock, but other than that do you think it would work? We are talking about a Boyds stock as the most probable replacement. Id have to bed the detachable mag in the action and probably have to trim it, but what do you think? Thanks

I have a post asking the same question. What I have found so far is that a small groove needs to be cut in the stock for the bolt release to work properly. If Boyd's would answer the phone, I would order a stock and find out. I have made five calls and gotten eternal hold all five times. Pretty poor service!! Left a call back number and got no response from that either.. Good luck!

it says on boyds website on the front page that they are on vacation until Monday the 6th.

I have a savage xp hunter with a detach mag, and bought boyds flat black tactical stock which works with the mag and factory bottom metal ... best hundred bucks I ever spent

Ok, but the bottom metal is $79 plus $19 for the metal piece for the clip. That turns a $99 stock into a $199 stock. I'd rather not do that when another $100 gets me a b&C medalist.

I have a Savage 16 detachable magazine in 243 that I put in a Boyd's thumbhole stock. I went with the detachable mag stock because I wanted to keep the ability to remove the magazine. I'm not a fan of the plastic bottom "metal" and the fit isn't ideal, but the gun functions fine. I did also have to relieve some of the wood around the trigger guard to get the bolt release to work.

Decided to keep mine mag feed. I got bottom metal (plastic) with a trigger guard and extra mag. Bought it all for $30. Its the plastic one but will have to do till I decide which way I want to go. Still waiting on Boyd's to ship my stock.

Where did you come across that at? I'm looking to replace mine as well. Thanks!
