Savage 111 Trigger

I picked up a Savage model 111 in 243 for a song today. Its like new ,but the Trigger pull is just terrible. It feels like the safety is on. What after market trigger do you guys suggest or have had experience with .Thank you

When I got my 112 Savage (what I am holding in my Avatar) I too was aghast at the horrible trigger pull. It was more than awful. After a bit of research on aftermarket triggers I bought me a Rifle Basix for it and hoped it would be an improvement. Well then! No worries there! Going from about a 7 lb pull to a 2 pound pull is more than an improvement. The kit came in a tiny ziplock bag so you have to put it together but fear not- I read the instructions twice and had the trigger together and in the gun in about 30 minutes. A few minutes of fiddling with it to get it just the way you like it and you are done. 15 years later and still doing a fine job for me. Yes I am pleased with mine. Put the same trigger in my .243 AI when I built it. I can sure recommend a Rifle Basix.

If you don't need less than 1 1/2# pull, Timney's are really
nice, and the least expensive to replace in a Savage. Note that
there is a difference in pre- and AccuTrigger replacements.

Compared to Rifle Basix, the switch with a Timney is much, much
more simple to do.

P.S. Wow, Rusty, ya got your post in while I was typing mine!
Please don't take it as though I was stepping on your post
about Rifle Basix. I just installed one of those, and haven't
shot with it yet (too derned hot & humid here). They now have
a DVD to watch, but the Timney's (for me) have been a LOT
easier to install and tune, at least for me.

Ah, that's fine, Dan. I in turn have not installed a Timney trigger but I have heard great things about them over the years.

I am not any sort of gunsmith so I was a bit apprehensive when I got that little bag with all the pieces in it. But as I said, it was cake putting it all together and installing it. And when I do something that turns out to be a success that makes me a happy dude.

The customer service from RB is great too.Any problems and they will take care of you. The Timney is probably easier to install but both will be an improvement. Just pick your poison. I've never had a Timney but had several RB's. They are both great triggers!!

OK, guys, which model Rifle Basix trigger did you use?

Savage "E-Z" Pull Trigger?

Sav-2 Match Trigger?

The E-Z pull appears to be just as easy to install as the
Timney. Wish I would have gotten that one instead of the Match
Trigger, especially after listening to a warning that one
should not slam the bolt shut because it could cause the rifle
to fire, especially at low pull weights. Because of that, I
just used the "hunting" spring and settled on 1 1/2# pull
weight, the same as my less expensive Timneys.

I have a couple os Sharp Shooters Supply triggers on target guns, ausom trigger and easy to install, last time I looked they were $108. at Brownells and the same at [beeep].

Look at the factory trigger. If it's a 3 screw trigger, you can adjust it down really low-safely. I prefer the old 3 screw triggers over my Sharp Shooter competition triggers. They are easy to get set up, and it cost nothing but time to do it.

Been anxious to try one, which has been on order since the
end of January. I keep checking Brownells to see if they have
gotten any but they're out of stock since my direct order from
Sharp Shooters Supply.
