Savage 17 hmr?

When I shoot my hmr sometimes while loading or cycling the bolt all the rounds in the mag will pop out. Does anybody else have this issue? Is there an easy fix besides trying to press together the 2 pieces at the top of the mag? Also, the mag doesn't seem to "clic" into its proper position anymore and is hard to get positioned right. Any thoughts about this?
Thanks guys

sounds like a bad mag.

if its a relatively new magazine i'd call savage.

if its just showing its age due to use - they're available in most stores who carry firearms & accessories (its the same mag as the 22 mag savage).

if you purchase a replacement make sure its a savage branded mag so if you have trouble you have the awesome savage CS department to deal with. There was an aftermarket 10 round mag that showed up a couple years ago on the market that was absolute crap.

I've had a lot of trouble with the blued mags. The top lips separate causing the rounds to pop out all at once. You can tweak them with pliers to help. The tabs that hold the sides together also separate and can be tapped back tight with a small punch and hammer. Also the back lips can be bent a little to make the Mag fit tighter so it will chamber rounds better. The stainless mags seem to hold up better and I've never had to tweak them. All my blued mags have been replaced with the stainless.

It's the mag lips, savage is aware of the issue. Me and a friend of mine each had one, his did an ammo fountain more than once. He called, they sent him a replacement. I never had an issue with mine, same gun, same mags as far as I can tell.

Bend the lips in a bit and you'll be band-aiding the problem until you get a new mag.

Thanks for the tip Plant one.
I emailed savage customer service, told them the issues I was having and 18 hours later I got a response saying they are going to ship me a new mag! No questions asked!

Also, my local fleet farm has 5 round replacement mags for $16.99. Better deal than Cabelas

Thanks again

glad to help.

this is what i've come to expect from savage. the only times i've ever had to call they were over the top helpful and the response times were awesome.

dunno why ohiohunter2014 is having so much trouble with getting ahold of them with his issue...

I've had to call Savage Tech support multiple times and if you ever need to call their tech line, always ask for Joel. He is always more than willing to help you work through whatever problem you are having so you can fix it yourself and will send you parts and pieces to do so. If all else fails, he'll send you a prepaid shipping label and you can send it back but for me, that is a last resort and if I can fix it myself with the new parts, I much prefer to do so.

I've had to file a tiny bit of the back feed lips on a couple different 10rnd 93/17 mags so they would feed better.
