I just bought a new Savage .17 hmr. with the bull barrel. The problem Im having is with the clip. I can't seem to get it to seat properly and if i jam it in there, I can't close the bolt action. If i dont jam it in, it wont feed a round into firing position. Is this a common problem with Savage arms? I hope its an easy fix, any help would be great. thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My dad has one of the pre-accu-trigger models with the same issue. Pay attention to the back side of the clip and housing, make sure that the edge of the clip is properly seated against the guide when you slide it in (about 3/4 of the way, then 'pop' it into place). Also, the clip that came with his gun needed to be squeezed a little to function properly. Even so, we had problems. In Savage's defense, it's still a great gun, but I don't even get the clips out of the case anymore, just shoot it single since it's a p-dog gun.

I have one also and have the same problem. I keep the bolt open and hold back on the lever that holds the clip in, and it seems to work fine. hope this helps.

I have the mod 93 and the clip was a bit stiff getting in and out so I sat and removed and replaced it about 50 times then a drop of lubrication and now if I pull the release latch rearward the clip will almost drop into my hand.
You do need to make sure it is lined up properly to insert the clip.
As a shooter the gun great using hornady brand 17 gr. load.. under an inch @ 100 yds..

My 93 has a stiff clip in it, however i prefer it to be a tight fit. I will have to get it back from my brother (having a problem with skunks at his house) and ill look at it to see if i can see any obveous problem areas that might cause your situation. Going to see him wednesday to work on his car, ill get it then.

The Savage .17s tend to be finicky in stock form depending on the ammo you use. My floor plate was a bit crooked from the factory and there were some rough edge on the clip.I fixed the floor plate and lightly filed the clip and now I have no trouble. Im shooting CCI's, FYI.
