Savage 24V Question

I am relativley new to predator hunting and I just found a used Savage 24V in 20 gauge and 222 Rem. I am thinking this would be a good varmint gun for me. I live in the Northeast with shots are seldom more than 150 yards. My questions are...is the 20ga enough for the close in shots for coyotes? If so, what would you recommend for shells and at what distances?

I have no familiarity with the 222 Rem...is this a viable caliber for coyote? Luckily, I do reload, but are compenents hard to find for this cartridge? Any help will be greatly appreciated

The 20 gauge 3" mag in # 4 should do out to 25 or so yards. This is a full and I don't know about shooting buck shot which would be better. 222 components are easy to find. I use 50-55 grains bullets in my 222. Check to make sure of your scope mounts because the one I had would nock the scope out of line everytime you shot the shot gun. I have the same gun but I let my grandson use the shotgun for small game and then sight the rifle in for deer season. The 222 will kill a deer quickly when you hit it behind the shoulders.

You might want to run a search here for info about that particular model before shelling out the cash. Even if I decided I would hunt with one, then I would not choose that combination of caliber/gauge.

I have not killed a yote with mine but have taken a few fox w/the 20g. out to 30 yrds. I use hevishot.

The .222 is a great pred. round. Keep it under 3k fps and use a explosive pill and you will get little fur damage.

awesome combo gun. i dont use shotgun for predators, but the duce cant be beat. my 24v is 50s vintage and exc quality. my combo is 357-20 guage.

I have beed told to not use the shotgun barrel with a scope mounted but that is the only bad thing I have heard. The shot gun recoil is hard on the scope and mounts
