When a close-range coyote crossed my path while groundhog hunting and the plastic magazine box fell apart as I inserted it (I swear I heard him laughing!), I immediately drove to a dealer and traded the Savage on a C-Z.
I tried two different model 25 17Hornets (one wood stocked and one synthetic) and had the exact same experience as this. Feeding issues with rounds constantly getting snagged/stuck, POI shifting massively, terrible groups, no way to single-feed rounds, etc. Sold them and bought a CZ 527 Varmint 17H. No issues at all and it shoots fantastic. Liked it so much I went and bought the same rifle in .204 a few months later.
On a positive note for Savage, I still have one of their Model 40 single shot bolt guns in 22H which was my first hornet rifle. I must have put several thousand rounds through it so far and it still works perfect and shoots sub-MOA all day with Hornady factory vmax loads. I've also had great luck with their 17hmr bolt rifles, but I'd avoid the model 25s.
