savage 93 rimfire

I'm looking for a 22 mag for night hunting as my 14 pound model 12 is a little overkill when my range at night is about 150 yards max. The standard barrel sporter is looking more appealing to me mainly for the price difference. How do you like yours and how does it perform. Thanks for you input

I have a 22mag model 93 and also one in .17 mach2. I'm not sure on performance with .22mag and coyotes. I've never used mine on yotes. Some guys are for it and some against. Both my 93's are the Heavy contour and they are not bad at all to carry. Both are topped with Nikon 3x9's. The Mag shoots really well out to 100yds, havn't pushed it much further. Thats on paper. Its accurate enough I'd say to get a kill shot on a yote. I'm sure you'd have to make sure it counts and be within 100yds. I'm sure there is a high risk of wounded dogs too. I've only used mine on smaller game but it is a great rifle. My mach 2 is my favorite rifle and I will never part with it. Are you wanting to go model 93 do to the weight of your model 12? I'm using a Model 10 in .223 at night and its not bad at all to carry. Have you considered any of the other savage models in center fire?

I have enough centerfires that I could also use night hunting besides my model 12 I also have a 17 hmr I just want a bigger rimfire not only for night hunting but all around rifle thanks

I just bought one in Dec. to use during our rimfire/shotgun only restriction. Havent bloodied it yet but have been experimenting with different rounds.
So far it likes ( shoots moa) Hornady 30gr. v-max, CCI 30gr.v-max,CCI 40gr. Maxi-Mag hp, Win. 34gr. hp.
It doesnt shoot Win. 40gr.hp. Which is too bad ,i was really hoping to use them for hunting.Others have had great success with these.
I love the round, its super accurate and just as much so as my 17hmr that is also a sav.93.

I have had mine for 4-5 years and it shoots great. I run CCI HP+V killed several cats and a few coyotes. I keep my shots less than 80 yards havent lost one with it yet. But shot placement means a lot.

I like the heavy barrel better. Balances better IMO. Mine shoots excellently with 50gr and 40gr Federals above all others. It is not hard to put 3 shots touching @ 100yds with it with the 50gr.

The trigger on it sucks. I have been meaning to replace it FOREVER now, but never have. I'm used to it, but it still ain't good.

I think this is a 93FVSS(?). Think that's the model #.....

2muchgun I have the same one and I love it. I had to paint mine too. But mine has an accu-trigger, that I worked on right after I bought.

I was going to get a Rifle Basix unit for it. I don't use it a ton, that is why I never have. Mine drives nails out to 125yds, then holdover becomes more of a challenge......

Yeah. I only carry mine when I know shots will be less than 100 yards. I have been shooting it out at 200 yards just for kicks. Requires about 18 inches with CCI HP+V's

I have shot both the marlin 925M and the savage heavy barrel 93 in 22 mag. I have found that the marlin is actually more accurate (at least with the weapons I shot), and the feeding from the magazine is a little more smooth. I really didnt care that much for the accutrigger on the 93, either. I found it to be different from the acutriggers that are on the centerfire rifles. I have killed a bunch of critters with my 925M, including a coyote. But is it my go to weapon with CCI 40gr HPs when I coon hunt. Accurate, depndable, and death to the coon that gets shined.

I have a heavy barrel marlin in 17 hmr its a good shooter took my first bobcat a week ago with it the trigger sucked so I took out the big heavy trigger spring and put one in out of a clicker style ball point pen. I will say i am biased i have two savage centerfires in 22-250 and 308 most accurate rifles i own and im a huge fan of the accutrigger so my mind is set on savage

i have a savage 93 in 17 hmr it doesnt have the accu trigger and it does ok dont know how the 22mag does. As far as the gun being reliable it rides in the truck and gets beat up pretty bad and i havent had any trouble yet.

I have the new marlin with there version of the accutrigger and its a shooter. Went with the Marlin ever since my brothers 93 would have light strikes and almost never shoot. Ever since then i have moved away from savage.

My wife caught me looking at this one over the weekend while we were at the local shop and I told her I always wanted one. I wasn't planning on bringing it home but after my son dropped a deuce she sent me to change him and surprised me with an early valentines day present. Haven't shot
It yet but looking forward to sending some lead down range
