Savage Axis scope base Weaver vs EGW? And what rings should I buy?

I'm looking for a good quality (solid) set of bases/mounts and rings for my Savage Axis 223, as I'm upgrading from the cheap rings, 2 piece mounts and Bushnell scope that came with it.

From reading previous threads on this forum, this base seems to be consistently recommended -EGW 1-Piece Picatinny-Style Base...

But I notice Weaver is also selling something similar for half the price.

Can anyone suggest whether the EGW is going to perform better than the Weaver? Or any other differences I should note? I don't mind paying the difference if it is a superior base.

In terms of rings...I'm totally baffled as to what to go for. Seekins seem a bit pricey, so if I didn't want to spend that much - what other 1" rings that would suit a Zeiss Conquest 6-9x40 scope can you suggest? I think I might require a medium height pair since the current ones that came with the rifle result with the bolt handle (just) brushing against the Zeiss scope.

I used the EGW with Warne perm (square mounting lugs) med height rings on my sons .223 Edge aka Axis.

Keep in mind that the EGW is a picatinny rail which means you can use most weaver type accessories and picatinny type mounts. Also the EGW's fit, finish, etc is better quality IMO.

DNZ mounts are nice but with the Axis being a long action, I would use a pictinny rail which will allow you to use compact scopes too.

+1 I'm completely satisfied with the EGW rails.
