Savage Axis trigger

I just went through this. No need to get a Timney, though it would be a great option. There is a kit available on eBay & other places, about $10, good reviews. You get a new spring, a screw, thin washer to eliminate play side to side.

I ended up cutting about 1.5 coils from the factory spring, with the intention of getting the replacement spring kit if it didn’t work out. Mine came down to just below 3 lbs on my trigger gage. I put in one thin washer I had in my screw bucket. For now I’m calling it good, gun fires fine.

Do a net search, a lot comes up dealing with the Axis trigger.

I replaced a couple of accu-triggers on my Savages with Timneys
and am very happy with the results. They are truly better than
the factory triggers. Both now pull at 1.5 pounds and a joy to
shoot.

I replaced an early Axis' trigger with a RifleBasix. Highly recommend. I tried the DIY solution but at the time the info and expertise of others wasn't available. I'm sure you'll be happy with the kit you ordered.

Let us know!

Muskrat thanks for the trigger info, I installed it today and dropped the trigger pull from 6lb+ to 20 ounces. Now if the wind will settle down I'll go finish zeroing it.

Yeah, for the price I’m happy with the Axis. I may even take it prairie dogging in a month or so. I’m more of a ‘hunter’ out prairie dogging as opposed to a fixed bench kind of guy. A lighter gun, less shots, closer range, with a higher hit % is the goal. I don’t crave admission into the ‘500 or 750 yard club’, though nothing against it.

I was at the camp on varmint control the other week. I had the 22-250 along, but the 17 HMR did all I needed to do.

I like to sneak up on Pdogs myself 2-300 yards are a lot easier than 4-500 yards and the air launches are better and happen more often.

I bought a savage axis 7 years ago. 199.00 at Scheels on a super super sale. I had my gunsmith cut 1 1/2 coils off of trigger spring. Trigger went from 6 pounds to 3 1/4 pounds. Unbelievable. I was afraid to do it so paid gunsmith 25.00. I think you could cut spring yourself off the YouTube video. Then I bought a thumb hole Boyd stock. This is my favorite bolt gun now. Marty

Thanks Marty I'm going that way too, because 18 ounces is far to lite for a hunting trigger especially when it gets glove season. Now a question where the spring screws into the trigger did you go all the way in or use it as an adjustment for pressure?

Gunsmith friend builds lots of Savages with custom barrels. He swears by the floating bolt head and not having to put so much time in a Savage to square the lugs, true action, etc and thus can get guys into a great shooter for less $$$..... and, he puts Rifle Basix tree there in them. Says great bang for the buck.

I have 3 RB triggers in Vanguards and been happy with mine. Good luck.
