Savage competion action

I just got back from the big gun auction we have here in Mattoon 3 times a year, and there was a savage 223 rifle that was a long action and the bolt read (Savage competition) First of all I don't really think this was a factory offering being that the 223 is a short action cartridge and this rifle was a long action, single shot? The stock on this rifle was almost like the 12bvss, but it had cooling vents in the forearm. The barrel was a savage factory barrel. Any ideas about this rifle? what do you think it might be worth in used condition? I was thinking around 400. Lee

Lee,

I trained as a SWAT sniper when in law enforcement.
Savage had a long action .223 that I used then. It was extemely accurate.

I think they did put out a "target" model as well, but was somewhat of a custom job back then. If I remember right they were single shooters with no internal magazine.

Savage had no short action at that time, & all calibers offered including the .308 & .223 were Model 110's.

I may rate that rifle as being perhaps worth more than $400. Especially if I had a use I could put it to.

No it wasn't that one. I went back to the sale and looked at it again. and it is a savage 110. This particular rifle looks as if it has seen a few rounds. If i didn't already have 3 223 i might think about it a bit more seriously. I just hadn't ever seen or heard of this rifle. I like seeing and learning about new and different rifles. That's the reason i asked about it. Thanks guys, Lee

I had a Savage in 223 that was a long action. Savage puts a block on the bolt, kinda looks like an over size bolt lug, that only lets the bolt open to short action length. Kind of a bolt stop. Shot excellent. Don't know about the comp. part tho.

probably a savage 110E, very nice rifles, they were the competition version. Hard to find only see them online once in a while, usually somebody from savageshooters.com will swoop them up.

I probably should had bought it but i didnt. they had two auction rings going and i was after the bullets. I dont even know what it sold for? Lee
