Savage custom action

Savage now sell action only for custom built gun. Has anyone seen or worked with this action? I am wondering if it is just exactly the same as production action in whole rifles or is it built to a tighter tolerance and dimensions?

Cost is barely 15% less than a whole gun. If it is built to same standards as production rifle it would be better to buy a full rifle and sell the stock and barrel. The final cost of the action would be less expensive than buying a custom action only to build on.

When I see Benchrest boys using Savage Actions I will take notice! Can't see building a custom rifle on a Savage action. Resale is not going to be any good as well in my opinion.

I think they are single shot only and have a larger ring than the standard savage. I believe the ring is 1.120 compared to the 1.020 standard savage so if what Im hearing is true the standard savage barrels will not work.

It would be a nice action for a switch barrel rifle. You could pin the recoil lug and either set screw the nut on the barrel, or just screw the barrel on like a Remington rifle with out the nut.

It is a single shot but it should be used for a long range build shouldn't it? I like the Stiller SSR Diamondback. they're hard to find.

Lots of us are talking about it but none have been brave enough yet. Sure is a lot cheaper than my Bat Machine actions. From the diagrams I have seen it looks to be a nice rigid action with three action screws.

its sad but I can build a rifle on a remington action and not only sell it easier but for twice the money as I ever could get out of a savage. Kinda like the old mauser they make a great rifle but its still a Mauser.

Ain't that the truth. Last one I got was $1200 delivered. They sure are nice though. I don't think Bat is worried about competition from Savage or most anybody else.

I think that most folks that build up Savage actions aren't really worried about resale value.

The looks on the guys faces at the range when they see groups 1/2 the size of theirs printed from a rifle that cost 1/2 of what their Remington cost is priceless. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with you Kelbro and if you notice used savages are getting harder to find and more expensive I think the word is out and the days of finding used $150 savage stevens are over.
