Looking for recommendations for a direct fit replacement barrel for a savage model 10, currently chambered in 308. I would like to go with one of the 6mm calibers, 6.5 creedmoor possibly. Only paid 350$ for the rifle new, so I not looking to put a on 800$ barrel if you catch my drift. Thanks is advance.

Check with Ritch. He can get you set up with a super shooting Savage tube by Black Hole. Being a Sponsor here he has an investment to keep the members happy.

Lots of choices in profile and finish. He can get you more chamberings than are listed on his site.

Northland has several different brands of "custom" pre-fit barrels as well as factory new take offs. Jims also a good guy to deal with. I bought a CBI barrel a few years ago and it was a great barrel for the money.

I've had good luck with ER Shaw barrels on my Savage, one in 6mm-204 and the other in 250-3000. Pac-Nor built my 25-204 barrel for a Savage and a 6x45 for my Rem 600. I have a 20" 222 Rem varmint weight barrel coming from Shaw for a long life paper puncher and PD/sagerat rig.

Yessir! My so-so shooting .204 became one of my very best shooting guns overnight after I installed a new Criterion (CBI) barrel. The 1-11" twist works superb with 32 as well as 40 grain bullets. I love how it shoots now but the local ground squirrel population is not too crazy about it.

My very best group ever was from a Shilen select match barrel from NSS. I have a CBI barrel from NSS and I haven't had the groups that I had with my Shilen. I'm hoping it will produce tighter groups once it's broken in.

McGowan offers some good barrels.

Hearing good things about Apache is fine, but he's not using high end barrel blanks. I believe he is using Shaw blanks.

If I were to build up an Indian Head, I would be inclined to use a Black Hole Weaponry barrel. They have treated me well in an AR, and I'd suspect they would do just fine in a bolt.
