It seems the Savage Edge comes with a barrel nut to change out barrels...does the Edge come in a long or short action then for the different calibers?

Quote from BigGameHunt.net:
"The Edge is offered in a long or short action. The long action offerings are 25-06 Rem, 270 Win, and 30-06 Springfield, while the short action comes in 223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem, and finally 308 Win. All models have a 22" barrel and a four round detachable box magazine."

I think whoever wrote that article is FOS. They stated that the "test" rifle was a "short action 308", yet you can clearly see that the bolt is longer than the other 2 short action examples pictured, and so is the ejection port. The cutout in the stock, however, appears to be the same length.

My guess is that the magazine box is 2 different lengths for long and short action(with the short action model utilizing a block for smaller cartridges like 223), but that the action itself truly only comes in one size. Long. Meaning a short action edge would still have the same bolt throw/ejection port as a long action model, i.e., longer/larger than the Savage and Stevens pictured alongside it........

2muchgun, I totally understand... I needed a dirt cheap coyote gun, and a new Edge was substantially cheaper than any of the local used offerings, let alone new. Despite it having so many of the things I loathe about modern designs, it shoots better than anything else in the closet...

There is nothing wrong with a cheaper priced gun as long as it is accurate and reliable. As long as a rifle posesses those 2 qualities, many are able to overlook some of the other "shortcomings", or areas in which manufacturing costs have been cut in order to offer the consumer a more attractive price. It's all about what matters to the individual.......

Just as many are willing to overlook the price of paying more for something that may not shoot as accurately, but by putting more money into can equal a lesser priced item?
