Savage mod 10 Predator?? Goods & Bads

I bought the Savage in a .223 and LOVE it!!! Shoots darn near like a match rifle! When I was sighting it in at 100 yards my wife said I think you missed the 2nd and 3rd shot - then we went down and she realized it was just 1 ragged hole!
Carrying it in the field is not bad, the weight does not bother me and it is a quick handling rifle. I would buy it again in a minute

My one rifle that I wouldn't sell is a Savage 10fp in 308.
bought it in about 97-98. I started shooting Savage's, because that is what I could afford. I love "Painless", but lets be honest; I love it because of what is sort-of isn't.

Savage has used the lowest grade sewer pipe they could find, and called it a synthetic stock, for 15 years. They have had attrocious fit N finish work for machining. They are generally tinny, and require tinkering.

The fact that NOTHING has changed, EXCEPT consistently decent barrels; AND people have finally started noticing that.

Their Crap-U-Trigger is a fantastic theory, but they use the most virgin Lead casting available. You get a good one, or you don't, and there is no in between. They routinely "half-drop" when you adjust them light, but within factory spec.

NOW they want a premium for them, and nothing has changed... I've been a 20-some year Savage guy, but I just bought another Ruger.

The Savage will undoubtedly shoot very well for you, but expect to HAVE to do tweeks to the mag follower, or trigger, or stock, etc. I know nothing of Remy, so I have no opinions.

I too have a .204 Model 10 XP and a 22-250 Model 10 Brush Both shoot extremely well. I carry the 250 more because of the length and it shoots everything I feed it. It will shoot under a 1/2 inch at 200 yards when I hold up my end of the bargain. I had a Model 7 predator before I got my Savage and I did not have any luck getting it to shoot it key-holed everything I fed it after 2 trips back to Remington I gave up and bought a Savage.

I've got one in 22-250. It shoots great and I've killed a bunch of coyotes with it. My only complaint is its kind of heavy to pack around. There are a bunch of guys that really like their Rem 7 predator hunters as well. I think for me the decision would hinge on how much walking you do. I know that on days where theres more walking in store for me, I grab my model 16 savage which has a much lighter barrel controur. In terms of accuracy, I doubt you'll find many people who have a savage predator hunter that will have much complaint in terms of accuracy. I know mine is reliably under moa.

I have the Thompson center predator venture it costs less than the savage... It's lighter in weight.. I also think it shoots better too.. Mine has a load that shoots .233" groups..

My two buddies have Predators in .243 and 22-250. They hang with or out shoot my Remingtons with Hart barrels and Jewell triggers. Kinda [beeep] me off. They are a great rifle to me, well worth the money and very accurate for a production gun. Brent

I've got the Venture Predator and get sub MOA groups with factory 55 gr Remington Core Locts. Haven't taken the time to find a load it really likes yet. It might be worth your consideration.

Thanks Guys looks like I just need to go ahead and get the Savage, seems every 10 people I talk to 9 of them pics the Savage

Ok now im stuck again. Im looking on Savage website at the model 10 Predator Hunter Brush and it show a 22" barrel with no AccuStock then there is the model 10/110 Predator Hunter Max 1 with 24" Fluted barrel and AccuStock. I really like the looks of the Model 10 Brush and also already have the Nikon Coyote in Brush camo but would it be near as accurate as the 10/110 Max? Which do you guys like better???

i have the hunter brush and will get the hunter max next cuz the hydro dip pattern didn't last that long. but other than that my bud has the hunter max in 223 and mine and his shoot in the same hole at 100 yards.

I have one of each. My older predator hunter is almost as accurate as my newer model 10 max-1 and both of them are in 223. i love them both, but they are a little heavy for a walking gun. With a good handload either one will shoot with some custom guns out there. If you want a walking rifle look at the model 11 FCNS it has the accustock and accutrigger w/dm and a sporter barrel

Purchased the 10XP in Mossy Oak brush camo about a month ago. Got it in the .223 cal. This gun has a home. Best shooting gun I have ever owned. Shooting the Hornady 55 gr. Steel Match and its a tack driver!!!
