how do you guys feel about this gun as a calling gun??
i know its heavy but i can get a pretty decent deal scoped, long bipod and shot only 23 times its a 26incher bull 22-250

I have a model 12 with a 26" fluted bull barrel in 22-250 with a boyds thumbhole stock and it is heavy, but it is my favorite rifle and a real tack driver. I wouldnt trade mine for anything.

If it gets too combersome you can always shorten it. I just put together a 20" Bull barreled 22-250 in a youth stock and it is a pretty nice little rig.

Alot depends on how you hunt, open fields and not far from the truck, great. Tighter cover and long hikes it can be a little much unless your nickname is "The Rock".

Just like anything it depends on what works for you. Alot of people think a waterfoul shotgun needs to have a 28-30" barrel, I love my little 21" barrel 12ga pump with a youth stock on it. Just picked up a 26" barreled SxS 20ga for this coming duck season out here on the coastal bays.

Think about the way you hunt, and if 12 lbs or so seems fun to carry all day. I started with My 12 FV in 204, but I now use sporter barrels. The Savage is a shooter, but trying to carry it became annoying. The Bull barrel makes it very top heavy. Not trying to disuade you. But consider what you like for a carry rifle first. Good luck.

I have two of these rifles 22-250 and 204. They are a dream to shoot. I like heavy, these two guns are my carry guns, I drilled a hole in the recoil pad and filled the hollow in the but stock with lead shot to balance out the gun, but its really heavy now. Im trying to get a 1:8 for the 22-250 to shoot the 75 grn amax. I have a 1:9 now and it wont stabilize the 75 amax. Ive been having good luck with the 69 smk. I have an accurate load developed, I just need to get it run over the chrony so I can figure out the trajectory. Great guns to shoot if you like heavy. If you get one and dont like it, get a hold of me and I will buy it.

thanks for the input guys, i went and met the guy this afternoon and bought it.already nick named it "TANK"
needs a better scope but the one on it will get me started

I have a 26" Savage 12FV in .223 and that rifle is laser accurate! That said, I don't think I would want to be carrying it around all day.
