Savage Model 11 FL 7mm-08

Bought this gun new in 2005. I really enjoy shooting it and hunting with it. It's really effective on GA whitetails. However, I can't get the Federal Fusions 140g to group better than about 2" at 100. I've done a little research and it has the 1:9.5 barrel 22". Does anyone have any recommendations for a factory load?

I've heard good things about the Hornady American ammo too but haven't used them. You could also try dropping down to 120 gr loads. The deer won't know the difference.
I'd check your set-up though too since Savages are generally much more accurate that that with varied ammo. Check the tightness/ torque on screws in scope bases and mounts and make sure your barrel channel isn't contacting the barrel.

I have the same rifle, and have found the 139 grn interlocks from Hornady to shoot very well in my reloads. I believe they are the sme bullets they load in thier factoy ammo. Great gun for sure!

I think Remington has the 7mm-08 Cor-Lokts in 125 grain bullets now.....matter of a fact I have a box I was going to try out when I run out of the 140 Grainers!Seems there isn't much grain choices out there for the 7mm-08 Rifles.....oh yeah I also have a Savage model 11 GCNS bolt-action 7mm-08 Wood a Stock and simply Love it but want better groups out of it too!

Let Us know how the new Bullets work out for You!

Correction....the Remington Bullets I have say "Remington Express RIFLE" and are 120 grain!

I have Ruger M77 in 7-08 and I broke in the barrel shooting every off-the-shelf ammo I could get my hands on. I've had great success on paper and critters with the Hornady 139g(?) GMX Superformance ammo, 120g Fusions, 140g HSM with the Berger VLDs and Federal "blue box" soft points.

ETA: After using the GMX on a spike Rocky Mountain elk this year, I don't think I'd use the GMX bullet on a deer.
