Savage Model 11 Lightweight Hunter or CZ 527 Carbine?

I am in the market for a good truck/walking gun. I have read all the reviews possible for both of these guns and was wanting to see what you all would chose. I like the weights of these guns and the apparent accuracy of both. I really like the idea of open sights on the CZ.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the process of considering the same two rifles and the CZ is slightly ahead due to the box magazine that will make loading and unloading easier when traveling between properties...
Can't provide much more than "I feel your pain" type support right now.

CZ all the way, However I like the stock on the regular CZ527 more than the carbine.

If your not going to use Iron sights, I'd get the American, then a cut and recrown if you really wanted a shorter barrel. But the carbine stock is better IMO with iron sights.

I need to look at the stock differences. I didn't notice that. Thanks for that info.

About the open sights. I hunt in a few places where open sights would be good. I think I they would do well for me but I'm so used to using the scope now I'm not sure I wouldn't be better off cutting the barrel down.

I have a Savage but it's not that model.I do have a 527 American.I don't think you can go wrong with either but I'll vote for the CZ.

I have no experience with the CZ but have over 20 years with my Savage model 11 22-250. Mine does have a clip but no iron sights. I love this gun, it is light weight and very accurate. I can only speak for the Savage but if you go with the Savage, you can't go wrong. It does the job.

I have two 527 Americans (204 & 223) and I love them. Light, short, easy to carry (I don't even keep slings on them) and most importantly Accurate out of the box.

I have both and both are serviceable good shooters. I would give the edge to the Savage because the safety on the 527 works opposite of every other bolt gun I have and you have to be aware of it all the time . To me this is a potential safety issue. My 527 carbine is an older one with the 5 round mag that projects from the bottom of the gun . This makes it difficult to carry cause the mag is at the balance point. I understand the new mags address this problem. There is no doubt that fit and finish of the CZ is superior to the savage and the set trigger is outstanding . However the Savage is a real workhorse and is a modular design . There are large number of aftermarket parts that allow easy customization .

I love the feel of a CZ. The only problem I have with it is the problem with scope mounting. I think I'll get a base that CZ sells and go from there. I do think I'm pretty much set on the CZ.
