Anybody own one? Pros-Cons. Hi everyone, I won a Model 14 at a local raffle and have yet to pick this gun up at Gander. I can exchange for something else if I would like. I have a Sako 243 which I really like, not fur friendly but will still take a whitetail if I like. Wondering about a 223 as I do not own one. Have an 06,7mm,17,22s,Black powder, pistols, shotguns etc...Now the fun begins with picking something else out. Anyone have any favorites in that price range that they would prefer.....thanks luder

Like anything no rifle brand is ever going to be perfect, that said I have a few Savages and a Stevens. The best is a 116 Weather Warrior in 7mm rem mag, it is the best shooting rifle, I've ever held, or probably will ever hold..For me. In other words, that Savage 116 was like it was made for me personally by higher powers which I do not understand lol. The others are all very accurate, except a Savage HMR which is as accurate as it gets but doesn't feed ammo worth a [beeep]. If you already have a .243 that you like and you want something else, I guess it would depend on what you like to shoot and if you have something that works well for it. After I bought my 116 7mm rm, I almost exclusively used it for hunting (everything other than foul) for around 12 years, I just now got back into a smaller cal, a .243 which has been remarkable. (But the 7mm is still a much better round to me and I shoot it well.)

Congrats on your win!! Just grab a lot of them and see which one feels the best that suits your needs. I have/had other brands than Savage of course, and some were great and I still have them others were horrible, although very popular with others. Luck of the draw over all I'd have to say as far as getting the "perfect" rifle from any company. I'm not going to bad mouth any brand, but always try to stay in NA.

I am going over there in the next couple days and see what my options are, I never had a 223 so that might be my best bet. I will let you know and grab a pic or two. I bet it doesnt come with a scope so some money will be spent. Whats a good scope in a reasonable price range for a 223. Thanks luder

OK Finaly went to Gander, Fire Dept paid 450.00 for the 243 they gave me that much to play with. I ordered the same gun in 223 which cost me an extra 150.00 or so. Bought a Nikon Pro Staff scope on sale with a 30.00 rebate-cost 129.00, leuapold rings and bases. So the new gun will come to about 338.00 I quess it wasnt free but what do you do? On a different note a guy I know came into work saying he was broke, so now I am also the owner of a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol for 200.00. Tommorow is also my birthday so I quess a present to myself (not telling mama either) Have a good one luder....

WHOW...did I miss something or did Gander get you pretty good...first...$450 for a Savage model 14 is pretty cheap...Gander gave the Fire Department a pretty good price...BUT to charge you an additional $150 for the same model 14 in 223...well...I say GOTCHA...IMO
