Savage Model 16

Im looking at a Savage model 16 in .243. My friend has one of the pre accustock models and the forearm flexes wayy too much. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with that model of rifle with the accustock. How much does the accustock stiffen up the forearm? Would a bipod cause the forearm to flex or is it stiff enough that it wouldnt be a problem?

I have a Savage 16 (.204) in their Weather Warrior series with the composite stock and the forearm does flex quite a bit,,, Now, whether this is what they are calling their 'accu-stock' or not, I don't know..

I generally shoot with a sling wrapped around my arm and it is really easy to apply enough pressure to flex the stock sideways...the stock can be stiffened with some aluminum or fiberglas rods, if you want to go to the trouble...

Shooting off a rest/bipod can be done by just opening up the barrel channel a little, as the weight of the rifle isn't that great..

My pre-accustock model 16 had enough flex to the stock I opened up the barrel channel to combat it some. After handling a new accustock model when they were first released I can safely say they won't flex.

I have a pre accu stock 16fss in 308. what I did was use a router with a 3/8" flat bit to route a channel in the bottom of the foreend. I, then, cut a solid section of aluminum 12 ga cleaning rod and glued it into the channel. then I filled the foreend with accraglas and re-inletted the barrel channel. this really stiffened up the foreend plus put a little more weight in the front which I like. while I was at it, I bedded the action and filled the buttstock with styrofoam pellets to reduce the noise.
