Anybody shot a savage model 25 in .223? I think that this could be my next rifle. What does everyone think? Let me know

Extremely ugly. Looks like a 22 long rifle someone has rechambered to a 223. With that said Savage makes some very accurate rifles. Personally I like my CZ 527 very well.

I love savage! But,,,,,, I think If I were in the market for a bolt .223 or .204, It would hands down be the CZ 527. I handled 2 CZs' a few weeks ago and I wanted the .223 with the grey laminate stock!! It was sexy for sure and the reciever looked and felt awesome. I just don't like the appearence of the 25 savage. For the money my choice would reflect IDbob's recommendation........

I love the look of the Savage 25! I am wondering if anyone has shot or handled one. I Will be shooting lighter bullets, but will the twist difference matter? 1:12 for CZ 1:9 for Savage. I will look at the CZ and see what I can find out. What would I get with these guns that I dont get in the Stevens?

Lighter bullets? Are you talkin 40-45Gr? If so 1:9 won't cut it. You may find 50's will stablize but you will surley twist jackets on anything lighter. I'm sure someone may argue that, but I stick by it in my experience.
I would say a 1/9 twistie would work good from 55-69 maybe 50-75 if your an optimist. 1-12 will probably be good for the lightest bullets found to about. 60gr. I learned this the hard way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
If it were me, I would buy a .204 and grab that extra 800fps if you want to shoot light bullets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

No, by lighter I mean like 45 to 50 grainers. I go back and foreth on the 204 round. I have a ton of .223 brass ready to be loaded, so I think I lean that way a bit. This gun will be for yotes only. How say you? Ups and Downs of each rifle.

My advice would to get a 12fv and chop some 4" off the barrel by way of a gunsmith or buy the 10PH and you will have a good rifle with a tried and true action with a reputation for un-riveled accuracy, that has a proper twist for the light end of the spectrum. If your not dead set on Savage I will still recommend the CZ.
