Savage Model 93 R Trigger Question

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just don't have the experience to know the answer.

I own a Savage Model 93R in .17 HMR. It is HIGHLY accurate, but the trigger is worse than bad, I mean horrible! My question is whether or not a "trigger job" is possible on this small caliber Savage? I'd gladly pay to have it done if it is possible.

Thanks for your responses.

Regards,

Rusty

I recommend you cruise over to rimfirecentral and check out the savage forum. there used to be a trigger sticky that laid it out nicely.

enjoy your 17.

Yes, A trigger job is rather easy. Rifle basics also makes a replacement trigger that is very nice but cost around $70. Depending on the Smith, a trigger job should be around $40-$60.

You can get a new trigger from Cabela's. I know what you mean about the trigger pull. I bought my son one for Christmas and there is a lot of slack in the trigger before it will fire. I've learned to guage it but my son can't do it. I'm just a little nervous about getting a low poundage trigger for him. But I've seen them at Cabela's for about $80 I think or you can look here for more information. I think its the same trigger replacement as Cabela's http://www.riflebasix.com/savage.html

I did the "shim trick" on a 93FSS that I used to have... But... If you're not very experienced, get yourself the Rifle Basix sear and install it. You'd have to do a lot of fine tuning to the "shim trick" to get anything near the RB.

Good Luck!

me!

Thanks for all the valuable tips. I think I will let my local gunsmith do the job as I have no experience working on triggers. The good news is that it can be done!

I just bought a Savage 93R17 Heavy barrel and I think it was like 18 more dollars for the accu-trigger. Total cost was only 218.00 and I know I could of got it under 200.00 but I like dealing with the store I got it at. You might actually be better off trading to one with an accu-trigger before investing so much. Eighty dollars is almost half the cost of the gun.
