has anyone used a Shilen drop in savage barrel? I am wanting to build a 17 Rem. and i just am having a 6-284 finished up by Benchmark barrels and dont really want to go the $2000 dollar route again for this build. So i was looking at the Savage action and drop in barrels. any help would be appreciated

I have a few Savage Shilen barrels along with Benchmark, Lothar Walther and Pacnor and they all shoot pretty good and clean up very fast.
The Shilen barrels shoot very well one of my most accurate rifles is a 223 with a 8 twist Shilen if I can find some targets I'll try to post them.
I don't have a .17 cal Shilen but I do have a .17 cal Pacnor barrel that is a real shooter BTW my 6-284 is also a Benchmark barrel

all 5 shot groups

rich i have about 2 more weeks for my build to come in. Lets see pics of your 6-284. Nice groups by the way. im just wanting to build something to keep me from burning up my 6-284 (i have a 200 yard range in my front yard) i shoot alot.

You could shoot a 223 for along time with out burning up the barrel and with a fast twist shooting the high BC bullets they are alot of fun but so is the 6br I have A shilen barreled 6br that is a good shooter also.
Here is a pic of my 6-284 not the best pic but the only one I have its a Savage PTA with the HS stock and a 30" 8 twist Benchmark barrel

nice rifles men. i like the 7mm WSM. I am gathering components now to build one. Rich what do you shoot out of the 6-284. Mine has a 27" light palma barrel with 8 twist. I am hoping to find a load with 105gr VLD and hope to push the bullet with either Retumbo or H1000

You should take a look at Criterion Barrels. They are the button rifled division of Krieger barrles. All are SS Match grade, hand lapped. The price is a bit less then Shilen.

I used one on a Savage 6MM BR with great results.
