I need alittle info from anyone that can help me please. I ordered a Bell and Carlson medalist varmint stock for my model 12 Savage. It has the accutrigger and the round receiver, cal. is 308, ss fluted barrel ect. I received it last nite, proceded to install, rear trigger screw went in fine, the front stock screw was off about 2/3rds of a hole. Whats up with this? Cabelas thinks that B&C must have screwed up, but I dont think so. I cant beleive they only mess up on one stock. They are sending me a replacement, but I got this feeling its going to have the same problem. Whadda you'all think. Do I break out the mill and slot the hole or????? Really a nice stock, gotta make it work.

thanks, Pysco-dog /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

What you probably have is a new center-feed Savage. The action holes are a little further apart on the center-feed rifles. Bell and Carlson just haven't caught up yet with Savage's newest design change and they're gonna have to if they want good sales to continue. I really don't know what you can do with the stock other than return it....modifying it may not be possible although maybe someone else has successfully done it. IIRC, Stockade is making stocks to fit the new center-feed rifles.

Pyscho,
Does your rifle measure 4.25" from the front reciever bolt to the front trigger guard screw? I have a the same B/C on a 10fp reciever. I do know that the old model measures somthing like 4 3/8" and I betting Cabela's screwed up not B/C. They make two specific stocks and that is the difference. I called B/C when I ordered mine to make sure which was which. They should have asked you. If you want I can try to find the part number..

Just measured my c to c and they are 4.250. Next question, What do I need to tell Cabelas? They tell me it should fit the "short action"?

OOP's Just didnt feel good about my measurement, so I pull the stock of and ctoc is more like 4.400 than 4.250. Still confused, but these numbers are abit closer.

That is right... It is there mistake, and if im correct the Medalist isn't even made in that configuration any more!!
The part number for your rifle is 2999 I think. I can't find my paperwork right now.. I ordered mine from a company in Missouri that B anc C referred me too.. Call B/C to ask.
Cabela's is one of those places that have virtually no one that has even touched a rifle much less know anything. The guy is just reading from his computer screen and couldn't tell the difference between a Savage and a Bushmaster..LOL There was also a fit problem with the inlay of the rear tange on the old model if I remember correctly. The Medalist Varmint is a wise choice for a Savage very decent stock IMO.. What is the P/N on that stock? it should be 4 digits plus maybe a letter prefix like bell or bc

I dont know the ctc on the bell stock, its already in the mail. I measured it yesterday after receiving it, but have slept since then. Sorry, really cant remember, but there was about a hundred thous. difference. With the trigger guard screw in, you could see about one third of the front screw hole.

Thank you very much for your help in this matter. I went to the sight you posted and it explaind the problem very well. It sounds like I'll slip into my shop after hours and do a bit of machine work. Wont be the first time southern engineering has proved to be helpful. I will make that stock work( I hope). Here is one good reason why I really enjoy this web-site, although there are many other good reasons, this is just one. Once again, thanks again, maybe I can return the favor sometime.
