Savage Striker/several questions

Well something new entered my life, a Savage Striker in 243. Great, I'm pretty lost on where to start. I want to shoot long range so 1st, what kind of scope? I see what looks like rifle scopes on the handguns, right? Next, do I bed and float the action and barrel like a rifle or ditch the factory tupperware and opt for an after market stock? This is enough for now, I'm sure there will be lots more questions later.

Oh ya, anyone know the barrel twist right of hand of the 243?

I have one in 308 Win. I have done nothing to mine, but
replace the trigger with a Rifle Basix(now out of production)
and have it set to about 14 oz. pull force. I also added
a sling kit, which I believe is now also out of production.
I never felt the need to bed mine, since I have a Barnes
130 gr. TSX/Win748 load, running at 2800 FPS(measured),
at .5 MOA. I thought about getting a laminated stock for it,
but just never got around to it. Not exactly a long range
scope, but I have a Burris 2-7x on it, and shoot out to 200
yards, for deer season practice.

Not sure about the .243 Win version, but the 308 Win, has
violent recoil. I have three Warne Maxima rings on the
scope, and still can't hold the scope tight. I have tried
just about every ring known to man, and the scope walks
counter clockwise. At the beginning of the season I reset
the reticle plum and by the end of season, it has walked
somewhere from 1/16th to 1/8th inch CCW.

Even with this issue, I like my Striker. I have thought
about re-barreling it in 260 Rem., with a heavier contour
barrel, and maybe act on getting a laminated stock...Or maybe
just keep it as is. It shoots so well, I hate to mess
with it.

Squeeze

P.S. When shopping scopes, you will need an ELR(Extended Eye
Relief) scope. That will limit your choices,

Squeeze- mine being a 243, recoil isn't to bad. It also has a humongus brake on the end of the barrel. Makes it pretty managable. My first striker was a 308 and it would Rock you Socks. I put a 6.5X20 Simmons on it last night but yesterday, I had a Remmy take-off 3X9 no name and it wouldn't adjust. Brand new and couldn't get it to dial in. I hope to shoot some LR and just curious what the "Big Boys" are using for optics. Maybe they will chime in soon.

260 Remy with brake and rifle scope. I Run rifle scopes on all my Xps also. Im shooting a 4x16 Votex and a Tact brake. No recoil and shooting to 600Yds

Yup.....that thing is bad a$$. I want to build a Srtiker in the future but can't decide on a caliber.

Thanks bfr4570. The Simmons is temporary and plan to upgrade soon, although it is a good solid scope. Meaning it at least functions correctly. Also soon to come is trigger work. What about bedding and floating the barrel? Probably so?

I also like the stock on the 260. Who makes it?

Its got a pretty big brake on it. Looks like it came off a BMG. It does keep the recoil tamed pretty good but it will get in your face if your not paying attention. Loaded some 68gr Bergers,75gr V-max, 80gr Noslers and 87gr V-Max for a little trip to the range tomorrow. I hope one of the four works.
