Savage vs. Savage

Looking at getting a Savage in .308. It would be an everything gun from coyotes to elk. Have a decent scope to put on it. The two models I'm comparing are fairly similar. Anyone try both? Which would be a better all around shooter? 99% of my shots will be under 400 yards. models are 10 FCP-SR. This one has a 10 round detachable magazine and a 24 in. barrel. The other one is a 10 Precision Carbine. 5 round capacity and a 20" barrel. Also, I'm open to other models. Any advice/experience appreciated.

I plan on leaving it stock so I like the accu-stock and the factory cammo of both models. Thanks.

The 10 FCP-SR looks to be threaded already if you are going to use a suppressor, but I'd check the thread pitch first before I bought it.
Also the 10 FCP-SR would have to have a new magazine or block the one it comes with as most states only allow 5 rounds for hunting big game.
For the money, personally I'd get the 10PC.

You will be happy with either one. I would go with the 10pc also. More weight to carry around in a longer barrel and inside of 400 yards the extra spead won't make much difference. Also what the SHARK said 10 round mag will have to be replaced anyways so why waste that time and money.

Between the two; I would go with the 10PC. You can always thread it later if you want it suppressed. I have the 10PC in 223 and love it. I looked at the FCP-SR as well but liked the Precision Carbine better. You won't be disappointed.

10PC... unless you shoot an Elk next to the road, you're going to be a travellin' man to get to them. Why bring the extra bbl weight?

Good luck and post up pics of whatever you purchase!

I have a buddy with what is now the 10PC. It used to be call the FP10, it is an awesome shooting rifle. He has a whole file of targets that are three shot 30 cal groups that can be completly covered by a dime...

I'm pretty sure WA has dropped it's round restrictions for big game. Catering to the AR crowd. Still need a plug to bird hunt though. We also just passed a new law allowing supressors. I hadn't even considered either of these factors. Mostly barrel lenght and round capacity is what I was comparing. Thanks for the replies. I don't own a bolt gun, so I'm exited to get one and try it out.
