Alrighty... Here we go...
First you will need a container to put the skunk juice in, of course.
A freezer that you don't mind putting dead animals in, FULL dead animals, not butchered animals. more importantly, skunks.
Skinning set-up with a sharpener and knives etc. I like a rope with loops on the end. Slung over a branch on a tree downwind of the house.
Syringe
Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda, and dishwashing soup (the liquid in a bottle stuff)
Understanding neighbors/significant other.
You need the freezer because you need to collect quite a few skunks because its too much effort for one at a time. Its better to do 10-15 at a time or more if you can. Of course if you are going to do 10-15 at a time its well worth your time to skin them and sell them at a fur sale. Ours at the last sale averaged $2.25 green and $4 stretched. We also like to see the most use out of any animal we harvest. When skinning stay well wide of the glands but other wise it is just a simple case skinning job.
You need the Hydrogen Peroxide/Baking Soda/Dishwashing mix to get rid of the skunk smell. I would suggest stripping down pretty well and washing yourself well afterwards and your clothes in this mixture. If done right it WILL get rid of the smell pretty well.
Getting the stink out is pretty easy... You push the syringe into the gland and extract the fluid, then insert into the container. Repeat. There isn't really a set amount that you will pull outta the skunk. Sometimes the big one with big glands only have a little fluid in them. Kinda feel cheated when that happens.
As far as gathering skunks, trapping is the easiest way. If you only have plain cage traps, secure a blanket around the trap to make it easy to get the skunk. If he can't see you generally he won't spray. Course don't be shaking the cage either. Then just take it to a thing of water deep enough, and slowly submerge and leave for 20 minutes, don't try cutting that short either or get a nasty surprise. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif We bait with a simple $1 thing of off-brand oreos (comes with like 30 cookies) from the dollar store. It won't attract the neighbors kitties (all the time).
Enjoy... I suppose... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Don't blame me please if you piss your wife/significant other/neighbors/etc off. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
$15 an ounce is a pretty good price in my opinion... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
